Found on Bulb Fennel - Foeniculum vulgare
Phoenix, Arizona - April 13, 2005
CLOSED: Striped Tail Fly
This is a hover/flower fly (Diptera: Syrphidae). There are many species with this general color pattern, see http://tinyurl.com/mqht8l for a few examples.
I counted at least 3 or 4 genera that this could be with the details that are shown. I guess I'm out of luck on this one. Thanks.
