Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Rita, you're about a month behind us bloom-wise. My DI bloom fist week or two of April normally so I would expect some signs of buds in the next week or so. Keep us updated!!

I have plans to be adding lots of pictures when they finially do bloom. But really since I have not had them before I have nothing to compair them too as to when to expect bloom. I sure do have lots of folliage. Oh, I guess I just have to be patient.

For the lady who asked if Dutch iris could be grown in zone 4, the answer is NO. I have tried for maybe 4 yrs. and they never made it thru our winters.

Boy, do I love that pink iris, no matter if it doesn't have a name.
Would you have extra rhizomes?

Steve, I shouldn't be amazed at what you grow down there. Must be that green thumb of yours.

Hey Maxine, what time do you plant your bearded iris? I think I usually order/receive in July or August and plant them. If I have some extra pink ones I will send them to you.

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

When ever I get around to it. Generally around the 1st to middle of Aug.

Still no blooms. No flower stalks showing. Here you can get a view of were they are in the garden. I have them there along a row in back of those daylilies in the middle. Tulips blooming in front.

I have this section in my terraces garden that has lillies, daylilies and Tall bearded Iris (at the back). I was wondering if I should but some Dutch Iris in front of the lilies? Trying to think if it would look good.

Rita, When is the bloom time for the Dutch Iris???? I can't wait to see them, you have soooo many!!!

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

I have no idea. I never had them before. I had though before the TB iris but my TB are just starting to show stalks and nothing on those Dutch iris. I only planted them Dutch Iris last fall.

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

The way it looks now my Tall Bearded Iris will bloom first although I had been under the impression that the Dutch Iris were supposed to bloom before the TB. I am wrong because the TB should start blooming very soon now with the really early ones. Meantime, no flower stalks yet on the Dutch Iris.

At last! Flower stalks on my Dutch Iris. They seem to have popped up overnight. Only a small percent show flower stalks as yet but heck, it's a lot better than none LOL!

San Diego, CA

I love them especially the purple and yellow color combination! I planted mine in the end of February, I am wondering when can I ever see the flowers. Now, there is only leaves, not one stalk in sight.

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Rita, I am SO happy to hear you finally have your flower stalks! Please be sure to post pics as they develop.

I don't know about the climate there in California but when I tried planting Dutch Iris in the spring, they never grew and I did not get blooms. So this time I planted them in mid October and they came up in the spring. Actually they had folliage up as soon as the snow melted early this year.

Steve, I was beginging to wonder if there ever would be blooms to take pictures of but now they are finially coming up. Not ready to bloom though yet but I will definately be taking pictures.

Congratulations Rita!! They look beautiful! Now aren't you glad you persevered and got them???

I have lots and lots and lots of bloom stalks coming that are not yet ready to bloom. I just love them :-)) Already planning on buying more to plant this fall.

Tomah, WI

I'm so envious! Can't grow the Dutch Iris here. They are beautiful!

Marble Hill, NY(Zone 6a)

Thank you for posting the beautiful pictures!!

After several attempts I finally mulched my DIs this year, for some reason they don't like my yard.

So I content myself with living vicariously through everyone's gardens :-D

mattsmom, jxmas, I guess everything is a trade-off. I don't think those very early dwarf iris do so well here...though I know they grow fantastically well in northern gardens :-)

Tomah, WI

Steve, Let me know when you are settled in Indy. I have quite a few dwarf iris & you know I would love to share them with you, now that you will be able to grow them! Becky

Oh wow Rita, your DI's are really putting on a show...isn't it exhilirating?? You did a wonderful job with them; how beautiful. I cannot honestly think of a bulb that offers more bang for your buck than a Dutch iris. Every bit as showy as a tulip and at half the cost or less per bulb. Crossing my fingers and hoping they return for you next year but even if an annual they're more cost effective than most other bulbs. Congratulations!

I have lots that haven't started yet. I really like them and am planning on ordering more for fall.
