We've come from vol. 390 here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1167917/
Here's a Mediterranean Gull to start the new thread
Resin
Daily bird piccies vol 391
Lily cute photo of the Coots. We have a lot of them on our lake right now too. Cute shots of the mocker and nuthatch too.
Elphaba, your bluebird pair are cute. Great shot of the heron nest, hope you're wrong about the hawk, but I can see it happening. Nice shot of the dove with the reflection of another one!
Burn, great shots of the grosbeak.
Margaret, your photos of the cormorant are just beautiful. I love the parrot pictures too.
Resin, thanks for the new start. Great shot of the gull.
My crows are continuing to keep busy. This one was taking a break.
burn I wonder if the Evening Grosebeaks have stopped coming this far south. bird count says the have increased on the west coast. I would like to see them again even they can clear out feeders in an hour. Perhaps I down't have the correct type of feeder for them. (wire basket).
Iris, the Evening Grosbeaks are platform and ground feeder here, when they show up. They seem to prefer wooded area. At my SIL they are there all winter, and she's about 10 minutes walk from me. Her backyard is made up of trees and shrubs. I get them here mostly around April and May, and have some occasional visit during winter. I think it has to do with the migration, during those two months, they seem to disperse, because there's more competition at the feeders.
Seed gets spilled on the ground from the feeder, our pair of cardinals eats it, although the hen can use the feeder pretty well. Lots of trees & shrubs, Our property was conservation lant for 30 yrs, then divided into long narrow lots. 250' by close to 900'. So they could hang around the woods, although perhaps too dense for them.
Thank you Resin for the new thread with the pretty M. Gull. Duc, the pix of your Lesser Goldfinch in the birdbath is priceless! Burn, the only 'Grosbeak' I saw during migration one year was the colorful Rose-breasted Grosbeak, but that was a rare sight!
The American Goldfinch with their brightly molting atire gives a nice contrast among the male Housefinches.
Burn, the Evening Grosbeaks sure make beautiful photos. Hope you're seeing the female Downy too. Our female comes for food every day, but I've just seen the male once.
Lily, cute picture of your goldfinches and house finch.
It sure got noisy here when one Bald Eagle started chasing another one that had some fish in its talons.
Hah, that pix makes the GBH looks like a praying mantis rather than a bird. lol. Sorry folks.
Went out this morning to see what I could get, did not see the Pileated, but got this female Northern Flicker making a hole. I am pretty sure you can see her, I got as close as I could without scaring her, I waited until she was pecking to move, that way she could not hear me, the male came around and tried to draw me away, so I left. But I got some pretty good pictures, it is somewhat of a cloudy day, so I tweaked the pics with Irfanview, enjoy!
oh adel, that feeder is adorable. but the two scrub jays are twice as adorable. haha. And always love the silly quail.
LOL, I agreed with Mrs. Ed. Nice photos Adel. Congrats teddy on your N. Flickers.
Love the Scrub Jay pic adel!
Adel, I think Tree Swallows have so much 'personality'! Love that shot. tiger, the water fowls are fun, the wildflower underfoot with the Wood Duck is beautiful. I saw 2 Crows chasing a Hawk during the weekend but couldn't aim for a good shot.
Nice shots adel and tiger!
Nice gull, Resin. I need you down here on the Texas Gulf with me to help identify the gulls and shorebirds. I'm out of my element.
Visited a rookery at High Island yesterday. There are thousands of Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Roseate Spoonbills and Anhingas nesting there. The rookery has also draw a whole bunch of alligators. They were everywhere. Very few neo-tropical migrants, though. Rain and a cold front today, so maybe we can get a fall out.
Roseate Spoonbills.
