The last hair cut I got was a "GI" cut..or just about. No maintenance, but the no-see-ums loved it. I deceided to let it grow out so I could donate to Locks of Love. My hair has FINALLY gotten long enough to put up in a pony tail...got a long way to go before the length is the required 10 1/2 inches, but it's so nice to get it up and off my face. Hopefully I won't cave in before it's long enough to donate. Ginger
Finally..a pony tail :-))
You've got the hardest part of the battle under your belt now! Don't cave in. I cut mine from my waist to my shoulder blades (polite for bra line) while pregnant with my son. After his birth, I too, did the GI cut. No comb needed for 6 weeks. Well 2 1/2 years later, I can do a "ponytail" if I do an interlinking chain of ponytails. 1 1/2 inch from all one length that just barely touchs my shoulders. Buy or make some ponytail holders to match most of your outfits it will help get you through the tough times, at least it did for me.
Booooo
My hair only ever reaches just below my shoulders and I'd love to have long hair.
It has a life of its own too, I would brush it all neat and as soon as I turned away from the mirror it would fashion itself on a pompom ball or Cousin It style.
I often have it cut to 1 inch long just to teach it a lesson but it isn't learning. I'm currently in a 'growing luxurient locks' stage but it takes so long I just know I'll have to go and have it sheared off again.
Ginger,
My 13 yr. old daughter had hair below her waist and got 12" cut off to donate to "Wigs for Kids". It was rewarding for her - the local paper even did and article about her.
You're past the worst part if you can do a ponytail - good luck and kudos to you for growing your hair for such a good purpose.
Cindy
I have hair down to halfway between my waist and top of my thigh (polite for butt ;-) and you know how I got past the "I wanna' cut it" stage? I bought lots of hats! ;-) Honestly and seriously! And I'm not talking about just ball caps, here. You can have fun with hats. They can be serious, silly or just plain old utilitarian depending on your mood, but they ALWAYS cover up that "bad hair day." They're so much fun that I still wear them.
Long hair is SO easy to take care of too. I wash it at night, hang it off the end of the bed while sleeping and it's dry in the morning. Then I brush it to see if it'll fall into place on it's own ~ if not, up in a bun, braid, French twist or whatever it goes ~ lots faster than curling irons and hairspray. And it's lots cheaper, too ~ last time I went to the beauty shop was two years ago (friend's wedding) and before that it was five. Not only that, I rarely use curling irons or blow dryers, so haven't had to buy one in years. The ones I have are 14 years old! LOL!
It IS kind of getting in the way now sometimes. I just may grow it a little longer, then cut off some to donate to Locks of Love. What a great idea, Ginger! And Congrats on your ponytail! (PS: I still haven't found that picture of my dogs in their reindeer outfits, darnit!)
well i did the g.i. cut 2 years ago and my hair is now at the bra line, it's a right pain tho, i love to wear it straight, but it can never make its mind up whether to be straight or curly, i have 'kinks' in the sides. have to blow dry it straight with straightening cream, and if i go out in the damp it curls again! aaargh. mostly just end up plaiting it or putting it up in a bulldog clip and forget about it!
lil
A couple years ago I had mine cut in a bob and permed, but now it's all grown out to one length, about to the bottom of my shoulder blades. We were cutting back on expenses and I just kept putting off going to the beauty shop! I miss my hairdresser - he's a great guy and a friend to us both! :o) The most recent spiral perm's mostly grown out, but it sure still gets tangled! I'm glad for the locks in the winter, but they're warm in the summer's heat! Nice to finally be able to wear hats without suffering from the dreaded HAT HAIR, though.
Well, I may get myself in trouble, but here goes...
Wingnut - my hair was about the length of yours, I still wear it long (mid-back) but had to get it cut because I couldn't stand when it got to the point of hanging into the toliet (ahem, sorry, uhmm, had to say it). I bet those of you who are growing out your hair never considered that! OK, let the bashing begin!
Cindy
ROTFLOL, Cindy! I have a habit of pulling it around to the front before I sit down on the throne, so luckily that hasn't happened to me yet, but if I don't keep it up it does get stuck in some weird places sometimes!
Cindy...hair in the toilet!!! too funny and yuck...mine has never been that long. How neat that your daughter donated her hair and was featured in the paper. I'll bet you were one proud Momma
