BLOOMS 2011 CONTINUES......

Ft Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10a)

Cannas certainly are aggressive plants as they keep sending up new stalks and spreading. I had about 8 of them in 2007/08 and then removed all of them in 2009. They were overtaking things and are prone to a leaf chewing caterpillar down here in the summer. Had to spray the plants every 7 -10 days to keep the pest away. I said I wouldn't do them again, but somehow three of them ended up at the house. LOL

Duluth, GA(Zone 7b)

Yep the cannas can be invasive, I just dig them out from where they're not wanted. I surprised my office today and took them some of my spring blooms. Here are some to the roses.

And peonies Bowl of Beauty, Baroness Schroeder, and Curonne D' Or. Everyone was most surprised about the size of these blooms.

Of course when I came home I felt deprived, so I cut some blooms for myself. LOL. The irises smell totally yummy, grape scented. Actually, we're getting really bad weather tonight and I didn't want these blooms destroyed. I hope that everyone in the southeast remains safe through this crazy weather. Annette

Wow, so many beautiful flowers to pick and share Annette. I can relate to getting outside and picking lots of stuff when you know nasty weather is on the way. Have done that myself om quite a few occasions. Have also been known to race outside and stake some taller stuff when storms are approaching.

Duluth, GA(Zone 7b)

I did stake some of the irises and peonies last night. It was very windy before the storms came through and they fared well overnight.

My camassia is up but no blooms yet. This will be its second year and I'm just happy to see it came back!

jmorth ~ Beautiful camassia! Wow! I just love blue flowers. I will be introducing some blues to my "White Flower Garden" this season. I really do not have a large enough garden space to do a white border properly as it is small and does not "flow" with the other nearby borders. So it is adjacent to the "cottage garden" border...they will eventually merge and flow as one, hopefully, just having more white flowers in it.

Here is an anemone from the "Dark Side Garden"....though pictures do not do them justice...

The allium are just starting to bloom as the last of the tulips fade.

Oooops! Sorry - user error!

Mine have buds! still have a few days to go though!

Leadwood: What is the purplish plant in the middle of the photo?

Leawood, KS(Zone 5b)

It's a red cabbage. I put cabbage and kale in the border for texture and color 'interest'.

New bloom on Amaryllis 'Blossom Peacock'. This is the second bloom stalk for this one since I planted them in the pot sometime in March (I think).

Love this one! Thanks Bleek!

Camassia leichtlinii 'Alba'

Thumbnail by jmorth
Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Cem9165, Nice clump of Camassia leichtlinii Alba. Hoping to see some of mine soon, especially the new ones that I planted last fall. Camassia leichlinii Sacajawea as well as Camassia leichtlini semiplena and Camassia leichlinii coerulea Blue Heaven. Last week we had to dig up an area where a nice clump of Camassia leichtlinii x cusickii Blue Sky was growing due to an electrical short to our out side lighting and may have ruined them for this year. Bummer. Patti

Enjoying all the photos everyone. Lost of different things I've never heard of . Getting a good education here. We seemed to skip spring wand went right into summer in South Florida with consistent above normal temps. Seems to be low 90's everyday, still no rain and quite a few brush fires burning somewhat uncontained. You can smell the smoke overnight/every morning as the seabreeze dies down.

I went out and checked and found today was indeed the start of the Camassia season. I should have a nice clump in full bloom in a couple of days. Patti

Leawood, your allium and iris are beautiful. Sanandreyas, nice cannas, mine aren't close to blooming yet. Bb, I can't wait to see your Camassia open. I've never planted those.

Leawood, KS(Zone 5b)

The allium have multiplied - this is a 4-year old "Globemaster" bulb.

Leawood, I'm glad your alliums are doing well. I wish mine would multiply. Your lilies and foxgloves are taking off as well.

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you, Cem, these are on the south side of our house...the ones on the west side are not blooming yet either.
Sandra :)
