I was headed in to town when I saw the Turkey Vultures feeding on a road killed doe. A Bald Eagle was watching from a nearby tree, so I thought with any luck at all, the eagle would be feeding when I came back.
Yeh!
I could see the white head bobbing as I approached on the the long straight stretch, and I was able to slow down and pull to a stop almost directly across the highway. The eagle barely looked up, so intent it was on feeding. I never left the car, and took photos until a vehicle approached from the opposite direction. Since the carcass was nearly on the fog line, eagle thought that was too close for comfort.
Getting up close with Baldy in the wild
tigerlily, way to go ..... really great shots. I'm happy for you. It's a rarity to get shots like that. Anytime that you can catch them with a carcass they tend to be far more tolerable toward humans. Usually my problem is like the one that you eventually experienced, i.e. traffic.
Amazing opportunity you were afforded, Tiger. Fantastic shots. Poor deer.
Wonderful shots tiger!
tiger, saw same thing in Jackson Hole Wy 3 weeks ago, stoped to get pix he flew. You are so lucky to be able to see such beautiful sights. All we get to see in Texas is buzzards on our road kill.
Awesome opportunity, and you made the most of it.
Great job with your photos Tiger.
Wow! great set Tiger...you make a T1i owner proud! :)
Thanks everyone. You can only imagine how excited I was, LOL
Burd, the 70-300 was faulty, as I suspected, so I used tax refunds for a 100-400 IS. It's very heavy and dwarfs the camera. Next purchase will be a good tripod. I need more arms.....................
Your photos are outstanding tigerlily! I just got the 100mm-400mm lens too! These eagle shots are superb!
I know what you mean about more arms Tiger..lol Today I had a backpack on, camera in one hand, Tripod in the other...think i,m going to skip the tripod.. its the first time Ive took it in quite awhile and didn't really help with the camo.
