Everything looks fine. Don't cut any more. Acclimate them to being in sunlight after being in the basement. I would wait for about a week to let them settle into their new environment. Then start feeding them. Some growers start feeding right away if the roots were ot disturbed. I hope they reward you with flowers for all your hard work.

Oh my.............after seeing your tutorial, I guess the way I prune mine back would give a newbie the vapors. LOL Mine are so big that I have to take the hacksaw in the fall and SAW them back. Have told the Spousal Unit he could use what I cut off for firewood. I usually end up stripping the new growth off at least twice over the winter in the greenhouse. As it is, they will be very tall when I can finally take them out again. Not to worry, tho........the g'house ceiling ridge is 12 feet. :>) I told hubby that this fall he was going to have to help me, as it was time I root-pruned and gave some new soil. There are 2 in 24 inch pots and 1 in a 20, with various ones in 16 inch. The 3 big ones are the ones I am most concerned about, tho.

With pots that large it is definitely time tp call in all favors and get help.

Betty,
Here are my cuttings from the "peach versa". They are sprounting leaves so I will have some to trade before long.

That's great. They look like they are on their way. Congratulations!

Betty,
When do I know they are ready for trades? Some, as shown, are Y and some are straight but all are cut ABOVE the Y base.

Thanks for all your help

If you are going to trade locally (literally handing the pot over to someone), you could trade when you are sure the cuttings are well rooted. If you are going to mail the cuttings, I would wait until the new growth has somewhat matured and the plants have developed a decent sized rootball. New growth is very tender and could get knocked off while you are preparing the plants for shipping or during shipping. The post office can do strange things to boxes and a cutting with a decent rootball has a greater chance of surviving a trip through our postal system. In the event the rooted cutting suffers some damage in transit, a good rootball has enough stored energy to kick start it in its new home.

And will these flower this year? I will probably hand most over to someone unless I have some who want them in late summer on DG. You're great to help me along and I'm sure this thread will be very useful for those who really didn't know what they could do with brugs and are starting out.

Kathy,
I can't promise you they will bloom this year, but given fertilizer once or twice a week and kept healthy, they should. You said that all cuttings came from above the mother plant's "Y" so you might see several flushes by fall.

Anita - thanks - just what I need, another enabler. I want a white brug now. I saw pictures of some posted on the thread and love it.

Great thread, thank you BettyDee for all the great information. I've been trying to grow a brug for years and have never had flowers. I see now that I haven't fertilized it enough, and I should be repotting more frequently. My first one eventually died, I tried leaving it in the garage one winter and it was too cold. So now I'm on my second. I think this will be it's third summer. I was planning on re-potting it anyway, because it's ready for a larger pot. I've got the Y, but the leaves above the Y are all symmetrical. I'll be repotting it today and start fertilizing once a week. It looks a little sad. Hope this vertical photo doesn't get cut off.

I agree that BettyDee has made this a thread to keep. I tried to ask very simple, detailed questions that us newbie's really don't know how to ask, or know TO ask. Thanks so much BettyDee and my cuttings are going great. Lots of leaves and new growth on potted cuttings and 2 of the 3 brugs I had never trimmed. One apparently didn't make it. We've not seen a single leaf but that's ok - unfortunately it was a yellow brug.

I will be looking for trades for my peach cuttings in fall. They should be well rooted and ready to travel. I would love a white and yellow cutting.

Great thread! A lot of good information here. I had been fertilizing with Miracle Grow Bloom Buster, and did notice that the leaves were turning yellow. I read somewhere that brugs are similiar to tomato plants, so would it be good to use Miracle Grow for Tomatos?

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Betty told me to use regular MG for green not flowers. I wondered about the tomato type but not sure how different it is.
