This seems to be a popular subject lately.Haven't seen the movie with that title, but heard it's very good.
What would you really like to do before you kick the bucket?!!
Many on my list involve traveling. I want to see many countries. We hope to go to Italy next year so I can finally get started on that. A top priority is seeing my grandfather's town, Positano. Almost every European country is on my list. Also Japan, China, New Zealand and Brooklyn. ^_^
Seriously, in the US, I would love to visit every National Park, though I doubt I will. Really look forward to the Alaska and PNW ones.
Want to walk the entire length of Broadway, top to bottom. That would be about 14 miles - certainly doable. On a nice spring day!
Would also love to circle Manhattan - either on foot or bike. On foot would take more than one day.
Would love to take a hot air balloon ride - nowhere near any power lines.
Would love to live to see my great grandchildren!
Being married and monogamous (did I say monotonous??) cuts many things off the list! Maybe a separate fantasy bucket list! ^_^
Would like to hike Pike's Peak.
I'm sure I will think of more - especially after I hear some others.
So what's on your list?
Whaddya Say??! What's on your Bucket List?
do not have a list yet
there are several nat'l parks i want to go hike and backpack. married the wrong girl for that though, good thing there are other benefits:)
south africa is on the list and back to santorini.
200 jm's here :)
did i mention the $350M lottery?
First things first... money, lots of it, enough so I don't have to worry about spending it. In fact I'd have an investment firm taking care of that for me ... say 250 million or so, one good mega-millions ticket after taxes. (yeah, I know, dream on..)
Then I'd buy a home in the mts somewhere in Wyoming. A small home in San Jose, Ca. and a small ranch in Argentina, they have excellent horsemen and plenty of beef, maybe a small cattle ranch, learn how to ride a horse from the Gauchos.
I'd still keep a home here in Long Island, pretty close to where I am now, nothing fancy, not too far North or too far South, about 2 million bucks worth so I don't get eaten alive by property taxes. LI would remain my 'main crib'. I'd visit my other homes when I got bored with the scenery. (lol)
I'd drop by London in a charter jet, buy a couple of tailored suits and shirts, (you know where you pick out the material and they take measurements and stuff...). Rent a yacht with a chopper pad and anchor off the French & Italian Rivieras, make it my base for checking out those two countries. Love to walk the open air food markets in France and Italy, do some shopping buy some custom made shoes in Italy. Hire a buyer in those 3 countries to buy me some clothes too, let her decide what's good for me, a few 4 season wardrobes of top quality.
Then I'd swing a little further South and see the Parthenon in Greece. Do Switzerland, Germany & Hungary by limo with first class hotel accommodations, take a ride on their railroad, visit some towns in the Alps. Do a 7 day trip to Iceland to see the active volcanic sites and land on an Iceberg and say hello to the penguins. I'd like to see the Sphinx and the pyramids in Egypt too. Maybe 6 mos total touring Europe. Don't care to see it all, just the main attractions and the countryside.
I'd like to scuba the reefs of PNG., 10 days there should cover it at a 4 star resort. I'd like to learn how to ski, (just to say I did it), fly a plane, (I wouldn't buy one, just learn how to fly a Cessna with a big parachute - like Angelina uses), just in case it runs out of gas. I'd also take DW white water rafting, that's something she always wanted to do..
Then I'd come back to NY, buy a couple of full season tickets to the Metropolitan Opera and take a nap in a hammock in my backyard with an ice cold bottle of Guiness Draught by my side in case I get thirsty, while wearing a big straw hat, (like a panama Jack hat), to keep my head cool in the shade. Call up the airport and tell them to get my helicopter & pilot ready, ...I don't want to be late for my dinner reservation at the Four Seasons! Yipee! ☺
WC, that sounds like a great life, but if you don't have the money, :( My bucket list is much more modest....I'd like to get to Acadia Nat. Park again, ride a bike on Block Island, win a blue ribbon at the fair for one of my paintings, plant a garden for the rest of my life, and the one thing I wish for the most....do the Texas Bird Trail.
Travel wise I would like to see the USA on the back of my husbands Harley, stopping to hike a few trails and take a pic of a Golden Eagle
Learn to ride a horse
Conquer my fear of water
Ride in a helicopter
Have a completely landscaped yard finished
Dance at my granddaughters weddings and a great grandchild wouldn't be too bad either!
Not outlive my kids or be a burden to them either.
I guess all of mine involve travelling...maybe it will change as I get older
Ride out to Sturgis
http://www.sturgismotorcyclerally.com/
To visit every state in the US, esp Hawaii
Visit Europe
True Robin, chances of the ticket coming my way are extremely small, - guess I'll never be ready to kick the bucket! (lol!)
No, I guess I won't be ready any time soon!
I'm not sure I have anything for a list, except to have grandchildren and see them get married.
We already travel a lot, and I have seen 26 of the National Parks so far, maybe a few more of those.
A few years ago when we were flying home we lost an engine, It was scary, but my thoughts were, at least I've had a good life. It did make me not like to fly more than I already didn't like it, so if I never traveled again, that would be ok too.
Years of good gardening, enjoying family and friends...
DW & I were on a small plane that lost an engine once. I looked at the little people down there and I was frantically wishing I was walking on the ground. Then I got heartburn because I knew I was stuck! Boy was that a bad feeling.
It was a wierd feeling, helpless.
Exactly!
I always say 3 prayers when flying, for a safe take off, a safe flight, and a safe landing. And I pray repeatedly. The flight we lost the engine, I told myself - look around, everyone else is relaxing, just sit back and relax. And we lost an engine. Back to my prayers!!
Victor, consider doing the Manhattan circle via kayak. My garden helper pal from Brooklyn did it some years back and wrote an article about it for the NYT. I will get it for you to read. He is about to start the northern trek of the Appalachian trail next week which would be on my bucket list if I could walk more than a couple of miles while carrying 25 lbs of gear. I want to watch an active volcano. A Friend who I saw yesterday told me she and her 80 year old DH are going to Holland for 2 weeks In April and are staying and traveling via barge at night while biking every day through the bulbs fields and countryside of Holland which sounds like heaven to me. I will sign up for next year if they have a great time as seeing the bulb fields in bloom is on my short list. Patti
That sounds like fun, Patti!
I was on one of those island hoppers, the kind you have to crouch down so that your head doesn't hit the ceiling while you look for a seat. It only had two big props and there was no door between the pilots and the passengers so you could see and hear the alarms and the guys fumbling around. It didn't stop me from flying, there's just no other reasonable way to get to some places.
- With all the bulbs you plant Patti, that would be a 'dream vacation' for you!
WOW! What a topic!
I have many ideas, but here are a few
To visit Sweden and find where my relatives came from and maybe find some relatives
Go to New Zealand and visit "The Shire" where the hobbitts lived and other locations where the LOTR was filmed.
Go back to Japan to Ojiya with my son's family and visit with friends.
Go to Alaska
Spending more time with family to watch the grandies grow.
Being able to visit DGers' gardens.

I like your last one Jan!!
Me, too :)
Mine is always open!
Like all the lists. I had been inundated with mundane work and missed the fun reading the forums.
Would love to take a sabbatical and live in a farm and grow the food needed in the farm.
Learn to swim and bicycle ( was a taboo for women to do this where I grew up).
Finally go for the honeymoon we didn't have, grow old together and reread the letters mu husband I wrote to each other. As a first step we bought our porch rockers five years ago.
Fun to read everyone's lists! I feel sort of like Debi did on the scary plane....I've had such a good life and feel so fortunate to have traveled so much abroad and in this country, so my travel desires are very modest now. I'd like to take a driving trip with our girls out to see my stepdaughter's newly designed lodge at Glacier National and the lighthouses she has designed in one of the Great Lakes, with side trips to see the Colorado grandkids, my friends at Priest Lake, Idaho and Lake Louise in Canada.....maybe next fall! I just like living my life each day and hope for the happy days to continue. Good health is pretty much at the top of my list.
Is Hank's daughter an architect, Louise? Sounds like she has an interesting job! Yep, hear you on the health....
That would be a fantastic trip, Louise.
Yes, Marilyn. She was just made a partner in her firm, which is a restoration firm in Colorado. She is very talented and in demand. The tough part is she has to travel all over the country to oversee some really neat projects, but she has a 2-year-old and a 5-year-old at home, and she's a great Mom. They won a great contract with the National Parks, so she has several interesting projects going right now.
Yes, Victor - I think it would be a nice trip, but we would need to make sure the temperatures are okay for being able to leave the girls in the car for meals, etc.. On our way back north, we are going to be able to take the girls with us to Harper's Ferry and Antietam and the weather should be fine, but it will be tough driving through all of the southern states before we get to Virginia, dog-wise, at least. We've sometimes had to just do drive-throughs if it was too warm to leave them to grab a quick bite. We know the dog-friendly hotels, but we will have to find them in the right places on a trip out west. I think your trips to Italy etc. also sound wonderful to me!
That's wonderful about Hank's daughter, Louise. Congrats to her. Would love to see some of her work. The Nat Parks job is a dream.
Are you guys Civil War buffs? Hopefully, the girls won't engage in their own civil war during the extended trip!
louise that is wonderful about hank's daughter! and definitely a great job! bet she can beat her dad at horse shoes too:)
It sounds like a dream job, but I know the traveling is very hard....I would love to see her work, as well....
She did a wonderful renovation of a historic hotel in Ouray, Colorado. I'll see if I can find a link to it. She won a preservation award for it. The design part of the Glacier hotel is complete and it is now undergoing the renovation, and the lighthouses are not yet in construction phase.
LOL, Bill. I'm not sure she is a horseshoe threat, but she might be! Her husband loves to take Hank on! He's a lot of fun.
Victor - we aren't exactly Civil War buffs, but we do enjoy stopping at historic monuments and sites when we have an opportunity. The Shenandoah route we take is filled with interesting battle sites.
Here is a link to the Ouray hotel she renovated. It's actually a very small world. Several years before she became an architect, a friend and I spent the night in Ouray, and I remember standing in front of the hotel (then closed) saying how cool it would be if the building were still open. Who knew?! :)
http://www.beaumonthotel.com/Hotel+History
I loved the drive through Ouray, but I don't remember the hotel. Cool!
I loved it too, Debi, but the nail-biter drive when we left was a bit much for me with my fear of heights. My friend was driving and she kept looking in my direction and talking as we were winding around those hairpin curves with no guardrails. I couldn't wait to get out of the car! lol
Quite the hairpins there!
I felt the same when DH was driving around Lake Tahoe and looking at the scenery rather than the road.
Yes, 19 year old son driving the California Coastal Route......I couldn't look down! What a great job she did with the hotel....that was a very large undertaking, Louise....
What a great renovation/restoration of that hotel!
Beautiful!
Thanks a lot, Guys! I will let her know what you said!! We have enjoyed seeing her projects around the Denver area whenever we have visited them. Lots of interesting places!
We have been without phone and internet for the last two days here while CenturyLink screws around messing things up for the whole street while they attempt to connect us to the fiber optic service. Today - at least for the moment - I seem to be reconnected to the world.....amazing how helpless you feel when you have no computer/cell phone/land-line phone. I could make a call on my cell phone, but I had no data usage on it. I'm crossing my fingers that we will have an end to all this excitement tomorrow at some point. Now that I do everything online (all banking and bill paying plus everything fun), it is disconcerting to be shut off for days. lol We are also expecting a pretty violent storm in a few hours and we are under a tornado watch later today as well. I'm taking advantage of connections while I have them!!!
I'm mid-way through the pack up/put away/dig up/disassemble/move around of stuff in prep. for our departure. The house is in shambles with things being staged so we don't forget to take them. The girls think it's all a big game. They continue to be very funny, playful little gals, amusing me at every step of the way.
I am prayerful that we will have a home to settle into when we arrive in NH. The stories of continued snow and cold on our mountain persist. It will be a fun adventure no matter what! lol Did I add that our very unspoiled little urchins have twice as much for me to pack for them as for myself???? Tsk Tsk. Two of everything these days. :)
take away thier credit card!!
LOL
