Hole punchers and soldering irons

I use the cheap kitchen scissors and sometimes a serrated steak knife for
cutting milk cartons; I use them on juice containers too.

For the thicker plastics like the juice containers, I make the drain holes and the
"vents" with a soldering iron.

I have put out about 50 containers, most of them in the last three days. We are
due daytime highs of 50s, 60s, and one low 70s. Night time temps range from
the 50s to freezing; they are mainly in the mid to upper thirties.

Do my jugs have a chance? I am going to do some backup with germinating seeds of those plants which are already up in my yard. If I
plant the seeds immediately upon germination, I feel that they might grow?
Please think and tell me: Hollyhocks, shastas, lupin, delphinium, poppies
foxgloves are all up and doing fine. Don't you think planted JUST germinated seeds would take too??

our nights have been above freezing fro a while now, but will be back below 32f later this week.
I'm not worried about any of my lil seedlings.

Thanks for the encouragement, tsc. I really need to plant a few
more containers. I understand that enough is never enough in WS.

This year I am completely determined to have healthy lupin and delphiniums going into the fall. I love them and fail most of the
time. It has developed into a fixation!

The hardest part of WS is leaving them alone. I'm still putting out jugs here in zone 5, the nights are still very cold. Some have sprouted but will be fine as long as I leave them alone for awhile yet.

I use the soldering iron for all my WS containers. I really like how fast it is and for me, it is safer than using a knife or some other sharp object to make drainage holes.

Bird,I used a soldering Iron too worked great,I use my kitchen shears to cut my milk jugs works like a hot knife,safer than a knife...

Hugger: I use kitchen scissors to cut my containers in half. First, I use a knife to make a slit to get my scissors into.

my sissors are soo sharp,no need to bother with a knife.. love those sissors..

Im hoping to get some Lupines and texas bluebonnets going this year we will see soon ....

I tried Bluebonnets with WS once and had no germination. My seed might have been too old. Good luck. Let me know how they work and what method you plant them.

Ive never tried them either..so we will see..LOL..
