I've noticed a bug crawling around my bathroom for the past few months. It seems there are more than one after finding one near the front entrance of my apartment. I live in a basement in Ontario Canada and I'm curious to know what these critters are. The pictures attached are of a couple that I've managed to catch. They are a half centimeter (0.2 inches) and they move quite quickly. They are silver looking but once you turn them over they are white on the bottom. They move like a centipede and they do not have a hard exterior. They are quite easy to squash. They tend to avoid light so that when I turn the bathroom light on they scurry off to underneath the baseboards. Once I notice them its usually too late to track them down but I often find them hiding for instance under the bathroom mat.
I've only noticed them during the winter but that could be coincidence.
Any ideas what type of insect these are?

Looks to me like a Silverfish. Lepisma saccharina.
Definitely a silverfish!
Harmless, but you should still get rid of them.
Silferfish like dark and wet areas so they are mostly found in bathrooms.
