Ever help someone down the wrong path?

I met Pipit on a gardening site soon after finding the internet. We both liked photography. About a year later we simultaneously launched our photo sites without collaborating. Surprise, lol. She joined mine & I joined hers. We shared members, too. IMHO my network was superior to her 'old style' setup, more flexibility and options for photo sharing. Two years later she sees the light as she outgrows her old platform. The move is frantic but successful. Her site grows faster than mine, (what?). Great, now I have 2 really nice photo sites to enjoy.
Last summer our host decided to start charging a Hosting Fee. It's not much but neither of us wanted to pay for what we always got for free. My members voted to stay, she moved to a new free host site but lost options. Got big time help from a member/admin then moved to a pay for host option which never caught on.
Yesterday she decided to close down. I feel so bad, if I would have let her go her own way she might still have a viable site.

There've been several ups and downs, surely she knows you well wnough that she isn't blaming you, and there's no way you could foresee all that.
When one door closes another opens...? Was this a hobby or a business for her?

Hey I still feel bad for letting my kid have a wart on his thumb too long and turning him into a lefthanded writer.

She is not blaming anyone. We could see the end coming with declining member activity.
Her site was a hobby like mine. Her decision to close struck me harder than I thought it would.
Small independent sites are loosing out to mega sites like FaceBook and Twitter. My site is doing OK but it's a constant battle to build and retain the membership. Even Daves Garden is shrinking.
