Evergreen Shrub for Container

Fort Worth, TX

We need some help...Please!!!!
Our front porch has a 5' fountain on one wall. In the winter this area receives more sun in the summer it is shade. Faces south and is protected from north winds. We are looking for choices that would create a slender 5-6' evergreen appearance. Have no problem turning every few weeks. Each summer we load this area up with gingers and ferns and then in winter it is bare till Christmas and the artificial lighted topiaries. So we want year round greenery out there. I'll get a picture up tomorrow.
We are in N.Texas. Any suggestions?? I do have some allergy issues with cedars. We will still dress up the area around the evergreens...it just looks so naked out there. A plant we can create a neat and tailored appearance, the area lends it self to that look.
Thank You for an suggestions

I have yellow groove bamboo in a very tall pot, which I keep in the ground, since it is a spreading bamboo. It sounds like partial shade in the summer and sun in the winter would be good for it. It is not exactly a tailored appearance, but I thought I would throw it out there as an idea. It definitely provides a nice texture. It is evergreen and in your zone I assume would do fine during the winter, though I am not a bamboo expert by any means. I have had mine for 2 years and it is now about 6 feet tall, not including the pot. However, I'm not sure how long it will last living confined in a pot. I see people growing arborvitae in pots on city patios around here. Here is an article on evergreen containers: http://www.finegardening.com/plants/articles/10-plants-for-year-round-containers.aspx

Don't know about container culture, either, but 'Sky Pencil' or 'Jersey Pinnacle' Japanese Holly (Ilex crenata) fit the description you've given.

I have had a "goshiki" osmanthus in a pot for a few years and it has always looked good. I live in Grapevine, so we have a similar climate. :)
