I love the height and shape of the American Elm tree. I have some near me and I'm afraid that they will eventually die from dutch elm disease. I've looked at possible replacements, but so many like the asian ones lack that classic spreading vase shape and height. There are some hybrid elms, but if any of their seeds sprouted they might turn out ugly. Does anyone have any experience finding elm trees that look like the American Elm, but are resistant and can survive in zone 4?
elms
You have found your person!!!
I have done years of research and worked with Mike Shade of The Botany Shop.
Look em up on the web.
They are still working and have started the Valley forge, etc DED resistant big elms.
I have two. They are doing great!!!!!
I would also recommend Zelkova, not the american, but the other one. LOL.
ONe is more graceful than the other. They are fast and vase shapped too.
How about Plantanus? Good Tree!!!!!!
Regards,
Sheri
