does anyone have an organic solution foar ants in our garden

Richmond, TX

Dyson feed your "ants" in your neighbor's yard.

Rocky Mount, VA(Zone 7a)

but my "neighbor's yard" is where my vegetable garden is located (SIL's place).

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL ~ I'm thinking lead would be the solution for them buddies. And for the carnivores, they can fill the freezer.

Good Idea, thought of it myself - but within town limits I would be quickly incarcerated. Any firearm discharged within the limits will be acted upon quickly.

Hmmm... trap, remove to outside the city limits, euthanize and return. LOL Squirrel season opened in TX today for the month. These fuzzy tree rats have become such a plague in the city here that they turn a blind eye as long as it is done safely.

Let's see, if they incarcerate you at least they would have to feed you and provide medical care and... 8 )

the local jail here is really uncomfortable, do not want 2 see it at all. Still worried about Shoe - has anyone have comms with him?

Rocky Mount, VA(Zone 7a)

Msg from Shoe - he is OK - thank god

Good to hear. I had noticed he hadn't been posting a lot lately and hoped he was just busy with the garden.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

A quick howdy, folks...

Thanks for your concern. Thanks Dyson for getting in touch.

We had some terrible winds, some tree damage but all is well. Most of the tornado winds were east of us. Very scary, especially since we got hit w/a tornado in '92...ever since then I've been a bit jumpy when the winds and warnings kick in. No fun.

Now about those tree rats...podster, I have a great squirrel sauce piquante recipe should you have a good season! *grin

Best to all!

Oh... not I. In the spring squirrel season, I'd be too busy looking down for snakes. 8 /

Glad to hear you skated on the more serious weather this time.

Have you thought about using garden grade sulfur or diatomaceous earth sprinkled around and on the ant mounds, and around the border of your peas? That might help. My boyfriend says that worms will also (eat?) or drive the ants away. Hope this helps!

I've used DE, even made a paste with it and painted it around the trunks, did'nt work. Probably just need a lot of chickens to take care of them.

Richmond, TX

DE does not work well wet or mixed with dirt. Could that have been the problem? My chickens are quite selective about which ants they will eat - fire ants, for example, are not yummy, it seems.

Saucier, MS(Zone 8b)

Horseshoe, in reference to the sauce piquante comment, are you from NC or South Louisiana lol?

My chickens will eat carpenter ants but not fire ants, which is what I have in my vegetable garden. The ants have totally destroyed my potato bed and now they're working on my okra. They are not farming aphids but are eating the plants themselves. I've tried a boric acid mix and DE, which has helped but still not to a tolerable level. I'm getting pretty desperate now...

Richmond, TX

Grants for Ants is a bait that will work on leaf-cutter ants - not strictly organic, but effective.

Albany, NY(Zone 5a)

I have a mailbox full of ants so thanks for all the suggestions. I'm thinking of planting tansy and citronella under it now.
