Tropical Garden # 94
Thanks for the new thread! Prita, what is that flower?
GA, your Ti is Miss Andrea. It has been a real performer for me and, up to now, hardy too. We'll have to wait and see this year.
Love your MIdnight ginger but beware, it is VERY tender.
Thanks ardesia, I found that out the hard way. I had one, but left it in the GH and obviously that was too cold for it. I will make sure I bring this one in the house next winter.
My other one actually bloomed for me and I loved the orangish blooms. Thank for the Ti ID also.
Metrosideros,
Very nice, intensely healthy looking!
I can see a huge smile on his face!
homer1958: Nice Philo! My side yard is full of Philodendron bipinnatifidum. They were here when we bought the house in 1975 and I love them for their hardiness and tropical look. They turn to mush when we have the occasional freeze here in East Central Florida ... but always return as soon as the weather warms up.
This is what they look like most of the year:
Rita: thanks for the new thread and the photo of that beautiful plant!
Loving everyone's gorgeous plants & flowers!
Dave: I see Hawaii even has beautiful plants at the airport!! That Plumeria is outstanding ... really beautiful! I gave all of my plumeria's except one to my next door neighbor last year and I have no clue which one I have left until it blooms.
HollyAnn: I like that Alocasia in your photo, nice leaves. Your Spathiphyllum is really pretty. I have a variegated one that was hit hard by the cold this winter ... still alive and hopefully will recuperate fully before long.
GAgirl: It looks like you've been doing some serious plant shopping! Nice Bromeliads but I can't help with the names. Love those Bougainvillea's trained as trees ... our Home Depot has quite a few in different colors. I love Bougie's for their beautiful blooms but gave all of mine away ... hate the thorns and the larger the plant grows, the longer and sharper those thorns are!!
Lin, love the look of your side yard, it is simple, clean and spectacular.
Dave, hope you are doing OK with the VOG and sulphur dioxide this week. Pele is angry.

Plantladylin,
very nice philos, i like the caladiums underneath... it's tough to keep it alive up here through a winter like this last one ... about 16'' of total snow and quite a few nights near 12 degrees... nothing the leaf mulch piled high can't handle.
i want to thank you guys for contributing your pictures to this site... I have been very impressed with the knowlege of everyone here. hope to see some of you at the aroid show in miami this year.
Hello Everyone!!
KayJones, that is a new e-bay Philo. McDowelli that I propped up on the plumeria to get a picture to start the new thread. lol
Prennialgirl, the Alocasia Sting Ray was the highlight of my garden last summer with my GK, Great find!
The Gardenia Vietnam is a rare variety with unusual flowers, I hope to find one soon. How is the fragrance?
HollyAnnS, that is a sweet pink Amayrillis.
What a nice assortment of plants followed you home!! I would love to see the OX tongue in bloom. What other cool plants did you get?
Variegated Cast Iron plant
RachelLF, thanks for the reminder, I will make a tag for it.
I have a Philo Superbum, but broke it in half when I fell on it. It is coming back fine but not as pretty as it's original self.
dzy, thanks for the heads-up on the lotus, I will give mine another couple of weeks before I panic.
I too, will get gift cirtificates and plants for presents. One Christmas I got a pile of compost with a big bow on the top, my neighbors know that I am a weird one.
Ardesia, Miss Charleston is a beauty, most of the blooms on my only camellia turned brown and fell off.
I know that you like Ti plants, here is a new plant Cordyline Pink Joy.
plantladylin, I agree with ardesia, your yard is spectacular, I hope that they come back bigger and better this year.
I did not know that the Million hearts bloomed, I will have to watch mine closely, with my glasses on. lol
mjsponies,I did a google serch for the variegated vitex and found them at Top-Tropicals, you are going to love those blooms.
I hope that you are done with the pesky fence building and can get back to having fun the garden.
Metrosideros, That is a great Plumeria picture, it would make a good thread starter.
The Capparis is a very unusual bloom, love it. thanks!

homer1958, did your Ti Giant ever go dormant this winter?
You have some very healthy Aroids, I was hoping that you would share a few of your secrets with us. I have a Okinawha Silver planted in the ground for over 4 yrs now and it is not quite a foot tall, yours seems to be thriving.
GAGirl1066, What a outstanding selection of plants,That is a very nice bromeliad. I do remember someone posting a picture of it before. I have the black ginger planted in my HH but it get smaller every year and has never bloomed for me. Good luck with yours. I love the variegated Hoya Bella.
My curley hoya blooming today.
Everybody has such great plants!
I really like Rita's variegated cast iron plant - looks like it maybe takes a bit more sun than the plain green one?
The midnight ginger is really a gorgeous color, too. What color does it bloom? Fragrant? I'm going to search for that one. I seem to be collecting gingers - at least 6 different types in my garden now, but they're all pretty common.
Rita, thank you for adding a picture of your P. superbum and Mcdowleii. I am looking forward to both of mine maturing for me here.
Homer, very nice P. bipinnatifidum and it's flowers. Great growing there in Huntersville. In regards to Hilo Beauty, the I.A.S. digest (Aroideana) had a very detailed article in 2009 that explained why this plant is a Caladium praetermissum and not an Alocasia. Hopefully, this plant will be granted it's true name "everywhere" someday.
Lin, beautiful picture of one of your bipinnatifidum with all those Caladiums.
Great finds Paula and HollyAnn.
Dave, nice picture of a Artocarpus altilis and I hope all is well with you too.
