Location: Melbourne, Australia about 1.5 cm long and maybe 2 cm wide.
Never seen something like it before. The wings where mainly transparent.
CLOSED: Is this a moth, a butterfly or something else???
This is a planthopper in the family Ricaniidae; likely a passionvine hopper (Scolypopa australis; Hemiptera/Auchenorrhyncha) - see http://tinyurl.com/4jdkkpf for detailed information.
