Found in Melbourne, Australia in the bushes close to the Yarra River.
The back was about 2 cm long and there was quite a bunch of them.

This is a fire bug (Hemiptera/Heteroptera: Pyrrhocoridae) in the genus Dindymus. possibly D. versicolour; these commonly are known as harlequin bugs. See http://tinyurl.com/45rdg5e for an example.
