Pruning Questions

Bloomington, IN(Zone 6a)

Couple questions about pruning . . .

1) I have a Viburnum dentatum 'Chicago Lustre' that reacted to a windstorm last year by splaying its branches outward. The branches stayed that way. Now, there are two suckers growing from the middle of the root. Should I leave these to give it some density in the middle?

2) Yesterday, I pruned a young Viburnum plicatum 'Mariesii' of all the suckers in the middle and weak branches. Was that correct?

3) I know that crossed branches should be pruned - the weakest goes - but what about crossed twigs? There are many that touch each other!

4) What exactly IS a sucker? Is it botanically different than other branches?

Pics are below . . .

Thanks!!

Here is the Viburnum dentatum 'Chicago Lustre' with splayed branches. Arrow points to two suckers. Should I leave these since the other branches are splayed out?

Here is the V. dentatum 'Chicago Lustre' with twigs crossing. Should those be pruned out? Being twigs, there are many!

Here is 'Mariesii' after I pruned suckers out. Should I do anything else to it?
