Hi,
I bought 4 cuttings from HI last spring. I potted them per instructions and by the end of summer I had leaves on all 4 cuttings, so I am guessing that they all rooted.
This winter (before it got Central FL cold) - all of the leaves dropped off each plant. During the winter I brought the pots into the the garage, so there was no possibly of the cutting freezing.
Spring has sprung and I brought the pots back out on the deck and watered them. The cuttings are a nice medium, dark green.
My questions: Should I do anything else to nudge the plants back into putting out new leaves? How long should it take before the leaves start to appear? At what point to do I need to repot the plants?
Thanks in advance. (Photo is from last summer)
One year old Plumeria -post first winter
Thank you. For some reason I thought there would be more to it :-)
wow dana! that is one purty plumie you have there?
hi neptunemuse. they really are not that fussy. i think sometimes i make it too hard. LOL best of luck with your plumies this summer!
I pretty much neglected my Plumeria trees in Hawaii and they did great! My Mother would come over every now and then and prune them for me...nothing else.
yeah, you can neglect just about any plant in hawai'i. : )
So true...I don't think I ever amended a soil or fertilized even. I didn't even know what a zone was till I moved to the Mainland...lol
haha! zone clueless...that is so funny! are you growing plumeria now?
I just came back from visiting family and brought back 3 Plumeria cuttings. I am already starting to see some activity at the leaf nodes :-)
right on! have fun with them.
hello everyone,
i bought a key west red from a nursery in florida(don't remember the name).
i have not grown any since i left california.
it is doing real good,
.
what i want to know is,when will it be safe to put out in the yard.
i'm going to sink the pot in the ground and then add the plummie.
i have not fertilised it,just a little water when the top 3 in dries out.it
is in a ten in pot and i don't know when to transplant it to a bigger pot.
also where caan i get some cuttings.would like to try those as well.
thank you,any help please
retta
OK, it has been a month since the re-pot. They are all in full central Florida sun, given a prescribed dose of dynamite fertilizer and watered at least twice weekly and sometime a little more with Mother Nature's help.
I still do not have any leaves. The stalks are a nice green and are firm (not squishy).
What I am doing wrong?
Please help.
lilspirit1941, I've a friend that once lived there in Iowa. She told me winter is cold and long. Plumerias can't tolerate freezing temp. Wait 'til after your last frost to plunge them in the ground. Best of lucks.
Neptunesmuse, it takes time to get established. The talks stalks are nice and green is a very good sign. Hang tough and enjoy.

You're quite welcome Retta, I'm doing the same thing; hardening mine off today. I'll gradually increase the amount of sunlight hours. Will take some pics. to share soon.
Thanks for the responses. It is only early April and the temps are close to 90 degrees. I can only imagine how hot our summer will be.
Finally !!! I have leaves on my plumies!!
