Marilyn, you're right - it Has to be Everyone, and the largest users of our energy are the least likely to do anything about it.
Bernadette - thanks for thinking about my question - I hate to be a "devil's advocate" (listen to me, a church-goer, talking about the devil this way!!) but if the big companies and skyscrapers turned off their power for an hour, it would take even more than they saved to turn them back on again. It would have to be several hours that they were turned off for, and that would also turn off their security, and other essential services that they could not and should not turn off.
What a balancing tightrope we have here. Awareness, and doing what we can is the way to go, obviously, My head spins everytime I try to figure out the best way. It will take researchers to figure it out, and I predict another decade before they figure out some definitive answers for us.
I'm pleased everytime I see "this product has been made from recycled material" or "this product uses smaller lids/caps to reduce the amount of plastic used".
It's all a start......

Hmmmm you've both given me food for thought, just went and shut off a few lights and turned down the heat...only thing I'll not give up though is NO t.v. On during the night.

Laurie ... when we bought this property 23 years ago .. OIL heat was 'THE THING' out here in the country.
I was used to natural gas, and BOY, did I notice a difference.
My good friends hubby works for a gov't dept that inspects the OUTSIDE fuel oil tanks .. 8 years ago she gave me a heads up that oil furnaces were on their way out as the holding tanks for the fuel were causing major environmental doo dah because they were prone to leaking. SO ... out with the oil, and, in with the 'little blue flame' .. the gas is MUCH cleaner and more efficient as well.
Hope your doc checks your BP Betty .. your headache has hung on much too long.
