My feeders have been out for a week. The bees really enjoyed the nectar. Regardless, I purchased some Hyacinths (very fragrant) and blooming flowers to welcome the Hummers home. Can't wait till they make it to my house.
One seen in Georgia now. :-)))
One was seen on the Coast South of us. Yeah!
saw first hummer hovering over empty hanger feeder, made note of date - 5th march about 10 a.m. immediately brought out cleaned up and filled feeder.
below the feeder, i put out my GDs red chair to attract hummer who returned within the hour....he kept coming back all day...don't know if the same one. since then they have been coming everyday...noticed 1 red throated different from others.
i know there are at least two, because one was chasing the other from the feeder these past two days.
so happy to see them back. i plan to put potted plants that they like in the area of feeder.
Congratulations flowblue!
I just saw the first hummer of 2011 this morning! It was a female ruby-throated hummingbird, and she took a good long drink before flying up into the pines. I'm so excited to see them again! We're in Waycross, Georgia.
Congratulations!!! That is so exciting! I see there are a few other reports from Georgia.
Have you reported your sighting here? http://www.hummingbirds.net/map.html
And tomorrow, the "dot" changes! Look at them go. They should be to Lily_Love's place any day.
Yippies! I'd be busy making nectar. :)
LOL...get busy!!
minnesippi, that's too cute. lol.
Very cute!
Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy! I saw my first RTHB this evening. I immediately put out fresh nectar. He revisited twice. Happy St. Paddy's Day to all.
Congratulations gazer!!!!!!
They are in South Carolina now!!!
gg, congrats. Happy belated St. Patrick. Wooohoooo, they're closer and closer. What tiny travelers! I can't wait.
WooHoo!! Even tho we are months away from Hummers getting here, I am very excited today! Saw our first robin in the yard this morning!! I know it's not as exciting for you southern folks getting hummers now, but for us northerners, it's just as exciting!! Spring is coming!! Yippee!! We are getting robins!! LOL!
Congrats Gazer...enjoy!!
Skellogg...congrats to you on your first Robin!!
skellogg, welcome to our forum and congrats on your 'sigh of spring' Robin.
I saw my first one yesterday. It was the exact same date as last year. No pics yet.
Congrats f_chisolm. I may be next to report of their arrival.
They are in North Carolina now!!! Wow they are coming up fast!
My little guy was still around today. Maybe he will be a stayer. My excitement for all of you farther north. As Pelletory notes, they are coming up fast!
OMG their in Virginia!!!!!
Yippie!
to hummer lovers -
would like to know where i can buy individual feeders with a perch. something like the size of a test tube...that way i can put out three or four. has to have perch.
i find that with my plate feeder with about 5/6 openings, only two will sit together to feed...sometimes they tend to chase the other away. pretty territorial i think, so best is to use smaller ones, but more of them...any vendors any of you know of?
Hi flowblue, I've been looking and just found these test tube feeders with perches. They have window mounted, hanging, hand held , ones for flower pots etc. Scroll down to see them.

thanks pelletory,
will call them tomorrow..... exactly what i wanted ...those vials.
i want to make my own perch. have you any idea what distance perch has to be and angle so hummers are comfy?
thanks so much for help...will keep you posted.
I've seen these same feeders at local Wild Birds Unlimited store.
