I sold a well used (1960s) saddle to a horse forum member and she paid me through Paypal. It says Instant Transfer on my Paypal account. It went into my Paypal balance. I had sent her many pictures of this saddle from all angles. This morning I get an email from her stating that she posted the pictures of the saddle on a vintage saddle board, and quite a few posters told her the saddle has serious defects. That its unbalanced, (leaning toward the right) and the horn is slightly crooked. Well, I took a look at the pics, and you can see the problems, but they are very slight. I had used this saddle with no problems with either horse or myself and knew nothing to be wrong with it. I used it for approximately 150 hours total. She is claiming that she should have noticed the defects in the pics, but she was excited about buying it and failed to look closely enough. She is now saying she is shipping it back to me, and wants a refund. I personally feel its "buyer beware," and especially with an older saddle like this. I have a Paypal account that is tied to my checking account. If I transfer my Paypal balance into my checking account, I fear that she will be able to get Paypal to take the money she paid for the saddle out of my checking account. Is this possible? She lives in another state, by the way.
Bottom line, I don't believe she should get a refund, as I was honest about what I knew of the saddle, and what was told to me when I bought it. I feel that she should have looked at the pics more closely instead of later calling them to my attention. She didn't say I was a fraud, but I can tell she is not going to back down on this. I have explained all of this to her as I have to you, very nicely, and asked her to please ride in the saddle and give it a chance before she makes a decision. When I hear back from her again, I'm going to suggest she resell it. When you think about it, it makes sense, since she'd have to pay shipping to get it back to me. I would never sell something, knowing its defective, and this situation really upsets me. By the way, the saddle is still enroute to her. She hasn't even seen it yet.
Paypal Question
Did you state in your sale that it is sold as is, or no refunds? If she paid through pay pal, and tries to dispute it, yes pay pal can give her a refund if they find in her favor.
What ever happened with the saddle?
Sorry--forgot all about this thread until I came upon it just now! I went ahead and gave the buyer a full refund for saddle and shipping. I just didn't feel right not doing it. Then I contacted the guy I bought it from, attaching her email and pictures, hoping by some miracle he'd agree to a refund. And guess what? He gave me a full refund! So now everyone is happy! Happy ending to this story.
Well, well...glad to hear there are some good folks left.
That speaks well for Paypal And for the people involved. That's wonderful..
