Looks like what's left of a dead spider. Was it alive when you found it? Definitely has had 4 legs on each side so not an insect, (3 on each side).

When I picked it from my head it was dead.

It has a pretty solid body. Not squishy. Although, that may just be due to it being so incredibly small.

It also has that white sac thing attached to it.

Possibly a tick? Don't they have eight legs too?

This definitely is the cephalothorax of a spider. Although there is not enough detail for a definitive identification, it does not appear to be that of any species that would be of any concern. It's occurrence in your hair was completely accidental. You can find images of several common California spiders at http://tinyurl.com/cjcxds

Thanks!

I was thinking the white thing in the photo might be web silk that was possibly extruded when the spider was killed. It could also be an egg sac left over when a female died after the babies were gone. Out in the garden working around shrubs and trees I often later find things in my hair such as leaves, seed, ants, small spiders, etc .
