show off your herb garden!!!

Stamford, CT(Zone 6b)

Bonehead, not only is everything very nice, but you have a good head for planning. I think we all know it is a marathon, not a sprint, but we're all a little impatient. Guessing you have a long growing season, and I did not expect you to have much snow in zone 8.

Sarasota, FL(Zone 9b)

I just posted about 200 photos of my herb garden on my facebook page "Kelly Costas Schott". I made them available to view to everyone and they are listed as Southern Splendor Gardens, which is what we call our home.

Stamford, CT(Zone 6b)

I'd love to see the herb garden photos. I can see your info and friends, but no photos.

Here's my favorite accessory -- my old Singer that I learned to sew on, settling in nicely with comfrey (knitbone), eupatorium (boneset) and arnica.

Hello bonehead!! I have been looking for comfrey and boneset for months now! Where did you find them? Online? Or locally.

Cedarhome, WA(Zone 8b)

Moxie - I found them both locally. I could easily send you some starts from the comfrey if you want. It is just now starting to sprout up and I have to keep it within bounds or it will take over too much space. The boneset is fairly new and not ready for division yet. Dmail me your address if you are interested. Deb

Wow, that's beautiful. I bet you hated to leave it. What is that mat around the beds?

POTTSBORO, TX(Zone 7b)

It was some "stuff" a friend had. I think it is the cushion that they lay under Pergo floors.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

How elegant! That should be something you could replicate in TX
and improved beds like that should work well. Very nice...

Edisto Island, SC(Zone 8b)

bonehead thanks for the great info on your herbs...vortreker, your herb garden is beautiful...are you planning another for your texas home?

POTTSBORO, TX(Zone 7b)

Thanks for the compliments folks--
I hope to duplicate it here this year (if my energy holds out)

Finally got some pictures of my herb garden. Have 2 flower vines in there and a Duranta but the rest are herbs.

This garden gets the full west sun in Houston, which is intensely hot in mid summer. I'll have to see if some of these new ones survive.

A chocolate mint--smells wonderful!

And a Red Rubin basil. It's very pretty and is just fine for cooking. Janet

I was just looking at the pictures again in here. Comfrey does get big! I have yet to set mine out, but they are doing wonderfully in the hothouse for now. When I do set them out, I need to make sure they are marked clearly. Fiance will chop them down, thinking they are weeds. ...lol...pffft

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Bariolio ~ very pretty. I hope you will continue to report how it does thru the summer. I am working on establishing perennial herbs between the sidewalk and the house (east side). So far, a couple of rosemary, licorice, chives and soapwort. And so far, not really pretty like yours is... lol

Moxies_garden ~ the comfrey does bloom. Maybe you could tell him they are "flowers". I have mine in a large pot, blooming right now.

Thanks, Pod! That comfrey looks alot like borage, at least the flowers. I just got some seeds of borage. I tried them in my shade garden last year but they didn't do much. Maybe they need a little more sun than I gave them. Licorice sounds like a very cool thing to grow! Wish we lived closer... :)

Moxie--hahaha! I told my hubby not to pick anything in the front or back beds because I scattered wildflower and other flower seeds around. They are coming up but the funny thing is that I really don't know which ones ARE weeds! I'm waiting around for things to flower before ripping out. I have IDed one as the cosmos I scattered but no clue what the other things are!

I trust everyone knows not to eat the comfrey.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

8 ))))

Cedarhome, WA(Zone 8b)

The bees will flock to the comfrey flowers, and also the borage if you get it to take. Borage re-seeds itself for me and I have to be cautious that I don't let too many grow, they take up quite a lot of room themselves. Comfrey also reseeds and I have to be very firm with that one.

I've always thought of comfrey as a healing herb (pounded fresh and used as a poultice), but don't know about it being toxic in any way. I've fed it routinely to animals (cows and rabbits) with no problems.

Google is my friend :D

Hemet, CA(Zone 9b)

Hey Voltreker

How about eating Borage. I occasionally put a bit in my salad when I don't have cucumber. Is it safe?
Sylvia

POTTSBORO, TX(Zone 7b)

dill--As far as I know Borage is safe in moderation.

Hemet, CA(Zone 9b)

Thank you Vortreker!

Batesburg, SC(Zone 8a)

We have alot of things growing here on this one acre. But, I won't even think about eating it without proper ID. It is just too risky, to not verify something, to consume. Just look at morell mushrooms. So many delicasies have evil twins. Deadly ones at that. And, me not being from SC.....I am better off to try to confirm an identity.

I will have to snap a photo of my herb garden after I've finished repotted and the wind stops blowing. All my herbs are in containers on my deck ^_^

Central, VA(Zone 7b)

Beautiful pictures. I'm here just to zip through the small photos because it's late, but I'll come back tomorrow to view them closeup. Herbs, love 'em. One of the best things about them is the darn deer will leave them alone. I know Herbalbettys gorgeous gardens from past years, and look forward to 2011's and Betty you are my herbal hero. The other beautiful pictures I have to return to see more of. Everyone should try herbs in the ground. I had herbs in pots for years before I realized how happy and huge they get when planted in the ground.

Batesburg, SC(Zone 8a)

Here is my comfrey plants, that another member sent me to grow. The pot, has catnip, mint, bee balm and one other I can't remember at the moment.
