Super Sunday Water Birds

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

My state's listserv had an entry about some local birds so I headed down to the river today. It was snowing, but in the upper 20s and the birds were happy campers.

Lots of Canada Geese. They were coming and going like jets at an airport.

The stars of the show (for me) were two Tundra Trumpeter Swans.

I was photographing this group because of the new lifer (American Widgeon) and realized on the computer that the Canada Goose has a fish. Looks like everyone else is after it.

Now in this photo, I was curious about the duck that looks like a female mallard, but with quite the eyebrow.

Thanks Rose. You know I feel like an idiot that this is right here in my town! I'm going to try to sneak away from work this week when it is sunny.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

How neat to have it so close..in the meantime I would like to see the shot of the female hooded merganser coming in for a landing (it didn't load above)!!
See ya later...gotta get ready to watch the big game!!

Wow! What a bounty of gorgeous birds. Those Tundra Swans are magnificent. Guess this was well worth going out and braving the horrible weather. I have never before seen this variety of waterbirds taken during one outing. And the Eagles are the icing on the cake.

PERTH, Australia

Great thread, Mrs Ed. What a variety of birds. Congratulations on the Hooded Merganser. I sure hope you can get away during the week.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Hey, looks like you had a grand ole time at the river. Lovely shots of the Geese in flight and the Swans. I love the almost mature Eagles. Congratulations on getting so many, and on your lifer as well. Wish they would hang out here, at our river too, but ours freezes over.
