From the previous thread:

quote="Methodical"]Dave, what size are your files? In the past, I had issues uploading my files and it turned out the files were too large (spoke to admin), so I now keep them at 3mb or lower, now. When the file size was 7mb, it would reject the upload, but would take 6mb, but very slowly and if it took to long it would time out. At 5mb or lower, no problem, but as I stated I tend to keep them under 3mb and zip they upload without a hitch. I'd say check your file size to see if they are too large.[/quote]

Al, I shoot in large JPEG and usually crop about 100%, so most of my images are trimmed to about 2 MB. I talked to admin too and came away with the impression that with images of that size it really didn't matter, except that a smaller image should upload faster. They told me any image larger than about 800x600 was automatically resized to that size by DG. I have since tried uploading resized images exclusively, but get the same result as when I uploaded full size images.

I know I've said this before but this time I think I may have finally gotten my problem fixed. Yesterday morning my cable modem was down for several hours, so again I called tech support at the ISP (Cox Communications). The person I spoke to told me my modem had reset 267 times yesterday. She was sure the modem was bad and that I needed to get a new one. I asked for a tech to come to the house and Cox sent one over this afternoon (yes, Sunday). Of course, when he showed up, everything was working fine. I explained the problem and asked what would make the modem reset so many times. I didn't understand and don't remember all of the techical reasons he told me, but he set out, checking the cables, down the street and outside the house. When he finished outside he told me the lines coming to the house were wet and then he checked and replaced all the connection fittings and splitters inside the house. So far things are running famously. When I move from one Internet site to another, it's zip, zip zip. So nice to deal with someone who seemed to know what he was talking about. When I get the time I will upload a bunch of images and see if the problem I have had with DG has been fixed.

Sounds like you're back in good shape Dave.

I find that when I downsize so that the widest side of an image is 800, and I use jpeg, uploads are rapid.

*fingers crossed* again, dave!

For whatever reason, I fortunately have never (?) had any upload difficulties. My photos are all jpeg files with a resolution max of 1,000.

Here are two photos of a Tufted Titmouse in my backyard after a recent snowstorm.

Well, I had better revive this thread.

Ever notice how his neck expands when he is singing? The feathers separate and look a bit like gills, sometimes. I haven't noticed any other birds that do that.

One last shot from his other side.

Here he really gets into it, and nearly closes his eyes.

OK, this is it. I got more than 300 shots of him at this "sitting," but I'll keep the rest for another day.

Here is a shot of a Black-crested Titmouse I shot last spring in Uvalde County TX. Unusual because it has a fecal sac in it's mouth.

Very similar is a shot of a Tufted Titmouse I took in Chickasaw NRA this past Friday. They obviously like oak cavities for nesting.

Dave, Those shots of him singing are awesome!!!!

Red, I would really like to see one of those Black-crested Titmouse!

Well, I did find another bird, and of all things, it is a male bluebird. With all the pictures I have taken of the bluebird you would think that I would have noticed that before. Interesting that when the male bluebird does sing, he does not open his beak wide the way a song sparrow or a Carolina wren or even a titmouse does.

One more picture, and not a very good one, taken looking up at his neck. When he perches on the top of the tree, as he is in this shot, I would have to climb on the roof to shoot him straight on.

Well, this is a titmouse thread, after all, so let me get back on topic.

Very nice pics guys!

I've only seen a titmouse in my yard once in 14 yrs & that was 2 yrs ago. Then this morning (as I was unfortunately headed out to a class; I didn't want to leave!), I heard a different sound, & looked up to see one at my safflower feeder. What a nice way to start the day.

Adorable!

Nice ones, Dave. Here are a couple of feeder shots. They sure like peanuts.

I should break these whole peanuts into half. Between Nuthatches and Titmice the feeder sure is a busy place.

Nice ones Linth!

Love those shots!

Glen Burnie, MD

I love titmice but rarely get one. I had one in my yard last spring for 2 wks but that was it. One just showed up last wk & has been a frequent feeder visitor every day. I've heard him singin' up a storm, too, so I sure hope he gets the girl & they do what birds do in the spring!

Lewisville, TX(Zone 7b)

I think "mine" are all gone now since the snow has left I haven't seen them in awhile. I think they are adorbale birds!

Glen Burnie, MD

Well, the little dudes (& hopefully a "dudette") are still hangin' around. I've seen at least 3 now at one time. I'm psyched! I hung a domed feeder in the ornamental cherry tree in my front yard. From my living room window you can see most of the tree (the top view is obscured by a low hanging awning). This morning, just in that one "frame", you could see the titmice, 2 goldfinches, house finches, sparrows & a male cardinal. Very cool. Then everybody scattered when a squirrel showed up, hung from a branch, got under the dome & chowed down. Ah, well.

Clinton, MD(Zone 7a)

Carol, you are going to love these guys/gals. Hopefully, the Chicadees will be regular visitors and you will enjoy them, too.
