CLOSED: Black Widow?

Ellendale, DE(Zone 7a)

These spiders proliferate in my yard. I have never had an expert positively confirm for me that they are black widows, but I believe they are and have been careful not to get too close.

This is indeed a black widow spider. Specifically, it is a northern black widow spider (Latrodectus variolus) - see http://tinyurl.com/4k75b9g

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I didn' t know they might have red on the dorsal side also. We found a huge 'one' with a lot of red on the dorsal side, in the woods, near DE, but I didn't think I found a match in my searching.
For me, the backyard is too close and I kill those. We seems to have gotten an influx when an abandoned barn and horse property nearby was razed for development.
