This is a nymph of a short-horned grasshopper (Orthoptera: Acrididae), but it is at too early a stage of development for me to be confident of a more specific identification.

Are you sure it is a nymph? The photo was taken on October 11, 2010 in Delaware, zone 7a. It was autumn. To my layperson's way of thinking, all the grasshoppers should have been full-grown by then ... Or do they continuously reproduce throughout summer and fall?

This most definitely is a nymph; it may just have hatched out of season...
