Heavenly Blue seeds?

Sundance, WY(Zone 3b)

Does anyone have any extra heavenly blue seeds that they can spare? I want to plant some morning glories with my sunflowers this spring, to climb the sunflowers, and thought that the heavenly blue would look great with them, especially since they have a little larger flower blossom. Hopefully that way the blossoms won't get lost in the huge leaves of the sunflowers. Or, if anyone has any other ideas on an mg with a large flower? Thanks!

skellogg - Unfortunately, mine never produced any seeds this past year, but I know they might be at the big box stores for sale now. I think you can get a packet of them for about $1.50 -2.00. I know Wal-Mart has them for sale here in Florida currently. Home Depot and Lowes probably has them, too!

Thanks Becky! I stopped at Walmart here (well the closest one, 35 miles away, lol) and couldn't find any seeds! Asked them where they were at, and they told me they wouldn't be getting any in until March some time! March! Can you believe it? Don't they realise that I have spring fever, lol! But I have to go to the city tomorrow for work, (about 90 miles away, lol) and plan on checking there. Somebody should have some in, I would think! I know spring is a long way off here, and we still have tons of snow, but still ......
I'll keep everyone posted what I find, lol!

i have a few clarks heavenly blue. would that be the same thing?

Sherman, I don't know, and really, I just wanted some to climb my sunflowers come spring, and thought that the bigger flowered and blue would stand out more and still compliment the sunflowers. But I'm sure Becky would know if they are the same, She's a expert, in my opinion, when it comes to mg's :-)

let me know, be glad to send you some

I planted some of these a couple of years ago, and quite frankly, don't know the exact name of the ones I planted, but they were definately a blue color, and had larger flowers on the vines than any of my other mg's. I thought that the blue would look good with the yellow sunflowers, and the larger blossoms wouldn't get lost in the leaves of the sunflowers. Does this sound like the ones you grow Sherman?

skellogg - I have never grown Clark's Heavenly Blue to compare to the regular Heavenly Blue. So I can not tell you the difference, but from what I understand, the Clark's cultivar blooms earlier than the regular Heavenly Blue. I had darker blue blooms on the Heavenly Blue vine I grew last year. I am wondering if the Clark's Heavenly Blue might be a different shade of blue. Perhaps a little lighter? I don't know unless I grow both Clark's and regular at the same time to see if there is a difference in them. If they do bloom sooner, that would certainly be a desirable characteristic! Do keep us posted on how long it takes before you get your first blooms. :-) Regardless, I am absolutely sure they will be beautiful and would probably be quite stunning growing up sunflower stalks! I hope you will share a photo here if you do grow them together!!

Thanks Becky! Well, Sherman, there you have it. Unless we grow them together at the same time, we probably won't ever know, so if the offer still stands, I would love to have some of your seeds! I will also get some regular Heavenly Blue and grow both cultivars so we can compare and know! Sounds like a great experiment to me, lol! And will make for some prettier sunflower stalks come spring and summer too. Sounds like a win, win to me.

judging from the picture the clarks are lighter. if you are in the add exchange will get your info there, if not, please dmail me.

That would be neat if you wanted to grow them both and share photos so we can see what kind of difference there is. I am still thinking Clark's is an early bloomer. Which I think would be awesome since mine bloomed in the Fall after growing all summer long. I'd have rather had blooms for longer in the season. And they were very lovely, but I grew the regular dark blue Heavenly Blue. Do keep us posted skellogg! :-)

Will do! I am anxious to see the differences. I'll keep track of the dates I start them so we can compare if they start blooming earlier or not. Karen is being very generous and sending me seeds of both varieties, so it will be fun!! She is super!!

Lowes and Home Depot both have all their seeds out and they do have Heavenly Blue and other mgs, for a little over a dollar.
