Unable to identify unique beetle

Los Angeles, CA

I found the following beetle in my home tonight - I released into the garden, alive. I have no idea what it is. Anyone have any suggestions?

Not a beetle at all, but an assassin bug (Hemiptera/Heteroptera: Reduviidae) in the subfamily Triatominae. Bugs in this subfamily commonly are known as 'kissing bugs' and they feed on blood of mammals (including humans). Some species are vectors of a parasitic disease called Chagas' disease.
