Lots of fun stuff on the last thread: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1150499/

Here's my daily visitor, female Red-bellied Woodpecker.

I have counted as many as four Downy Woodpeckers. They don't play nice with each other though.

Great start to the thread Mrs. Ed. Beautiful shot of the Woodpecker.

Nice shots huggergirl, love the Cardinal.

From the previous thread, great shots all. We had the Queen of Woodpeckers, the Duchess of Warblers and the King of Warblers--such royalty.

"We've had these two beautiful Common Redpoles at our feeders most of the winter. They seem pretty inseparable - and btw they never get anywhere near the birdbath water as all the others do."

Dirty birds!! LOL

Nice pics guys!

Mrs Ed, Thanks for starting the new thread!

Is it possible for us in Ohio to have Bluebirds here. My hubby said he saw a small blue bird a couple of days ago. He could not get a pic because (surprise, surprise) it flew away. So I wonder if it is possible we have one that comes every once in a while.

Marlton, NJ

Hi teddy, Yes it's definitely possible.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

I got way behind again! So many wonderful photos on that last thread everyone!

Mrs Ed, thank you for the great new start. Super shots of the red-bellied and downy!

Huggergirl, you have a great assortment of birds that enjoy your seeds. Cute one of your starlings-my starlings don't come near either of my suet feeders! Adorable 2 for 1!

Our Audubon group went to the Colusa Wildlife Refuge area a couple days ago and for the first time I was able to see what draws people to these refuges at this time of year. I saw thousands of Snow Geese in one marsh area, but the car in front of us scared them off. This is the only photo I got of them and I still didn't get all the birds in the photo.

We found a Bald Eagle sitting on top of a tree.

We found Great Egrets everywhere we walked or drove.

Resin was able to identify this as a Northern Harrier. Unfortunately I never got to see the head or front of the bird and it was the first time I've ever seen one.

Another first for me-and one I couldn't find in the water-was Ibis. Just got the silhouettes.

I also found a Belted Kingfisher.

Duc, Those are wonderful! I hope you had a great time.

Thank you Mrs. Ed for a nice start. I'm so glad you get to see your Redbellied, for I haven't seen mine the entire months of Jan.! I saw this Mr. Red hot Pepper -- errr male Cardinal against the blue sky this weekend and couldn't resist a pix of him.

Oh Duc, seemed like you've had a great time with the Adubon group. It's mesmerizing to be able to witness so many snow geese at once. The Eagle pix is fantastic!

Tamara, I meant to compliment your pix of the Mrs. Cardinal amongs friends on the old tree block. Seem like you've got all the pretty snow, and we down South just get cold. Brrrrr.

Lakeview, OH

Hey Lily_love, I will send you all the snow you can stand, I am very tired of it and we still have Feb. to go through! Must be a hawk somewhere around, not many birds so far today except for the Chickadees and Nuthatches. But I did get a good one of this fellow. He stayed long enough for my hubby to get a few great pics of him.

Yesterday and today have been bitterly cold here but of course they have been very sunny days. Today a lot of European Starling and Common Grackle are visiting the feeders.

Here is a shot of a Tufted Titmouse at the feeder last week. Shame about the background.

Thanks for the new thread Mrs. Ed and a great start with that beautiful female Red-bellied. We seem to have an abundance of woodpeckers in our area this year and I am enjoying every minute of it!

Nice shots everyone and Duc congrat on your lifer..always a thrill to see a new one.

The birds in our yard are now competing with the Starlings...grrr...! I received an email today saying that the price of sunflower seeds will be going up in Feb in our area from $20 for 50 pounds to $30. The price has been climbing all winter so I am hopeful that spring is just around the corner or I will have to get a job!! I noticed the Goldfinches are starting to turn yellow so I hope that is an indication of warmer days to come.

It is above freezing today...it's very nice to see the last of the snow melt. Have a warm day everyone!

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

So many important things to do today and what am I doing? Entering stuff in ebird. Pelle showed me yardbirder.net which I like a lot more, but wanted to track bird numbers by month and couldn't figure out how to do that in yardbirder.

Ebird though is totally manipulating me and I don't like it! If you enter a yard list or any list, they automatically also create a life list. Well, it's not my life list. That makes you feel like you have to enter all your birding trips so your life list won't look pathetic. I'm just trying to enter this year's and it's already a pain in the behind.

I should just enjoy y'alls pics intead. Nonstop rain today, so none of my own.

Mrs. Ed, outstanding. I see you are the Princess of Woodpeckers. Nanny had better hold on to her crown!

Hugger, on the last thread, I thought that was a picture of a sandy beach. I was so surprised when it was snow. Should have known. Must have been wishful thinking.

Duc, AMAZING shots! I chased Snow Geese around earlier this month. They spook so easily but really they are the most mesmerizing and loudest when they are in the air.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Aye....do ya think ye be stealin' my crown Mrs. Ed?!?!? lol

Thanks for the great new thread...enjoying everyones pics!! I counted 5 Downy's here all at one time this weekend & Mrs. Ed is right, they don't play nice!

We have a group of starlings that have moved in too. So no nuts or cat food put out today. But it was not bitter cold today.

I kind of like this shot of just the beak of the Hairy Woodpecker...

And I still have only had one White-throated Sparrow so far. It must have a few friends nearby!

Still waiting for PIne Siskins here...just Gold Finch & House Finch at the feeder.

That Hairy Woodpecker looks like he was playing hide and seek with you! Also not as cold here today, but not many birds and not many shots, my Cardinal came back today and we got some pictures. My hubby got some pictures and I teaked this one, it sat there almost as if they were posing.

Great start to the new thread Mrs_Ed! I just love your female Red-bellied!

huggergirl... your Cardinal really stands out against the snow! Super bright red!!!

Duc... beautiful Eagle shot, and I love the Snow Geese in flight! I had my first encounter with them last winter and it was amazing!

Helen... what a cute Titmouse shot! They always make me smile!

Lily and teddy... your Cardinals are very nice too! They are so easy to spot in the winter, but ours are so skittish! Makes it hard for me to get a good shot of them!

Nanny... that White-throated Sparrow is so cute, sitting all by itself in the snow!

Burn... love your set! Those Redpolls are so nice... I would love to see them here!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Rumpus showed up the other day and was perusing around the pots and planters for fallen seed. His tail stopped growing about an inch shorter than the other wrens, so I can still tell it's him!

We had a bit of ice one morning and the perches were frozen over. Kinda humorous to watch the birds try to land on them!

This female Downy believes she is hiding behind the trunk of this perch! She "hides" from the male when he flies in! Hate to tell her....
