Is leaf spot contagious?

Wakefield, MA

I have a pieris (Mountain Fire) in a damp location on the North side of my house. When I went out the other day, I noticed that it is covered with black leaf spot. I think it has a fungal infection. I am thinking of moving it to the east side of my house in the spring. My question is: will this encourage the leaf spot to spread to adjacent bushes where I will be moving it to? I have a lot of healthy bushes on the east side of my house and I don't want to infect them as well, if it is "contagious". I was thinking of putting it right next to a Rhododendron and there is also a pieris not too far off.

I know that I should spray with fungicide to treat the leaf spot. I assume I should wait until spring.

Thanks.

On further research, maybe it is just winter burn on the leaves. They have lots of black, rather large spots on them.

Makes more sense if it's just appeared this time of the year. You might try spraying it with Wiltproof next winter to help prevent winter burn.

Yes, that would be a good idea to try the wilt-proof. Thanks. I have a hard time getting outside in my garden when the weather is cold, though! I just want to stay inside and enjoy my garden from there =).

I hear you! Me, too. I think you would spray the plant with Wiltproof while the weather is still mild, in late fall though. It lasts for a few months if I remember correctly. If you have a lot of damage, it might be worth it.

Keep warm. The Midwest is sending another round of snow your way. We got 4" yesterday. More expected the first of the week.
