My wife recently returned from grocery shopping, and we found this spider (still alive) inside a bag of bananas, any ideas on what it is and what we should do ?
sorry about the poor cell phone photo
spider ID ?
As you likely already know, the image quality is not sufficient for a positive identification, but the overall appearance of the spider is consistent with it being in the family Ctenidae (wandering spiders) - see http://tinyurl.com/46gmmqx for an example. These spiders can deliver a very painful bite, and at least one species native to southern Brazil can be quite dangerous to humans.
Unfortunately we had a woman here in Michigan that had some type of spider in her bananas that bit her and she died from it. My sister works in the hospital and told me about it.
Ive heard often of some type of tarantula that is very common in bunches of bananas. where were the bananas grown?
