Can anyone help me with this? I've had a quick search but can't see anything similar.
I came across it in Warburton, Victoria, on a rainy day. It was on a muddy path and was a bit unsure of my presence. It scuttled off backwards waving its pincers and then went under a rock, with its pincers still poking out.
Not too sure how clear the photo is, but its body is bright orange and pincers (claws/whatever they are) are very blue. I'm not very good with sizes, but I'd guess it was between one and two inches.
What is this? Colourful with pincers
It's a little crab but I can't find which one. Possibly a baby.
This appears to be a young crayfish (Decapoda: Parastacidae). In addition to at least one terrestrial species, there are others that can be found moving about on land under very wet conditions. See http://tinyurl.com/4hg3op7 for information on crayfish species known from Victoria.
Crayfish. No wonder I couldn't find it.
