Hey there, first time posting here. I found this strange looking caterpillar-like insect in my backyard today. I live in Victoria, Australia. Half of the insect's body seemed to be attached to that strange hollow branch and acts as somewhat like it's shell. It's been crawling around my backyard with that shell.

CLOSED: Red caterpillar-like insect
Upon closer inspection, I've found out that it's legs are stuck inside there, which is why it can't remove that tube thing. I'm still unsure of what the insect is though.
This is a bagworm (Lepidoptera: Psychidae); the larvae construct these cases to protect them against predation while they feed. See http://tinyurl.com/2b8c6tr for images and more information.
