Just started bird feeding & taking pictures 9 days now.

Hi all, My wife always had a bird feeder, and loves to feed the birds. Most of the time she just through seed on the ground. All she wanted for xmas is some bird houses, and some feeders. Ok thats easy, but she also wanted me to build a squirrel proof hanger to put them on. Now thats not so easy!! But i did it... and now we have a lot of different kinds of birds that we didn't have before. When i went out to set up a heated bird bath these little birds kept landing right next to me. Well now i know their called chickadees. I looked them up on my computer, and seen a video of someone feeding them out of their hand. So back out i went. I put some seeds in my hand and "WAHLA" they just kept landing in my hand. Now that was pretty special to me, and got me interested in taking some pictures. Its only been a few days and, i got a lot of great birds... and not so great pictures.

This little bird comes to the feeder at the same times everyday. 3 times a day... I think its a female painted bunting. Not sure.

I thought this was a red- headed woodpecker, but was told its a red-bellied woodpecker.

This is some kind of nuthatch. not sure what kind.

WELCOME! And right off the bat I'm super jealous of your tame chickadee. They come fairly close to me when I'm filling feeders, but I've never tried to feed them by hand. Maybe I'll take a stab at it.

I would recommend getting a copy of Stokes or Peterson's bird field guide, they are awesome resources to IDing birds!

I think you have a fox sparrow there instead of a song sparrow. The song sparrows have the little dot on their chest. The Fox Sparrows are also a little more rusty.

That's amazing, getting a Chickadee to land on your hand, after such a short period of time. Congratulation and welcome to the bird watching forum. Love the variety of birds you are getting. I don't get the see half of the one you get.

And yes that is a Song Sparrow on the one. We have a daily thread for all us birdwatcher's, looking forward to seeing some more of your visitors.

Thanks Burd, all these pictures i took in the last week. Every time i change the batteries in the camera the time stamp reads 2004. Sometimes i just leave it.

Yes, that Bunting should be down here during the winter. Must have lost her way. It's sometimes hard to tell females from young males. If is is a young male, it's possible he got separated from the flock.
