We live in Georgia, USA and last night we went down to the basement (unfinished) and on our deep freezer lid, we found a dried, yellow splatter that look like it had crystallized (see pictures).
It looks like it dropped, hit the lid, and splattered outward. We searched the internet and came back with possibly a Banana Spider, maybe the egg sac dropping? It has a sweet smell, kind of like how motor oil smells (if that makes sense). Is that even possible?
What does this look like to you guys?
Yellow splatter (egg sac?)
It looks like a fungus of some kind.
Whatever this is, it definitely did NOT come from a spider. Did you examine the ceiling area directly above the freezer for any possible source (it also doesn't really look like a fungus/mold that one might find in such an environment).
