The head looks like it is an armyworm but I am not sure about the body. Is this an armyworm?
Thanks
CLOSED: Armyworm?
This is not an armyworm, it is in an entirely different family, the skippers (Lepidoptera: Hesperiidae). It appears to be a larger canna leafroller (also known as the canna skipper), Calpodes ethlius - see http://tinyurl.com/2anhmy4 for an image.
Thank you, the poor baby. I don't know who killed it but I wish more people would leave unidentified insects and cats alone until they find out what it is.
It probably was O.K. to kill this one, as the species can be a serious pest on cannas. But you are right in that one should refrain from simply killing something on sight without bothering to find out exactly what it is.
