My mother-in-law thinks that these are carpet beetles. She caught them on fly paper that I got for her from Tractor Supply. I took these pictures of the fly paper on Christmas 2010. She has had countless "sprayings" over the summer and replaced all her carpet with hard wood floors.
PLEASE tell me what these bugs are !!!
Are these Carpet Beetles?
These are not even beetles at all, but are fungus gnats (Diptera: Sciaridae). Their larvae often develop in soil of indoor plants when the soil is kept overly moist and has a high organic material content. Spraying such as what you describe has little if any effect on their numbers. The best 'cure' is to let the soil in potted plants dry out as much as practical between watering.
I agree with suunto. I get those at times too. Annoying little boogers.
