Nectaring (or gathering pollen) on a native liatris, Meadow Blazing Star, Liatris ligustylis, in my zone 7A garden.

This wasp is in the family Sphecidae (thread waisted wasps); it could be in the genus Ammophila - see http://tinyurl.com/23frs75 for an example.
