Guess what I found??

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I was out in the garage checking on my plants that I had to bring inside and found a lemon on my variegated lemon tree. I can't believe I missed it. It's about the size of a key lime right now and it's variegated too. Wonder if it will have seeds in it?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Cool! I would never find anything like that in my garage, LOL!

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Wow Cala I bet you are thrilled.I see a bunch of requests for seeds here. lol (being mystic ya know) lol

Louisville, KY(Zone 6a)

I wish I had a garage to lose stuff in! Cool...start some for us!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

How do I start them? Will the cuttings root?

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

Cala, What fun! About the strangest thing I ever find is a little snake every once in a while. Never a lemon. Maybe because I don't have a lemon tree, huh? LOL!

Dover, DE(Zone 7a)

So what you're saying is that you have a lemon parked in your garage right? LOL! :o)

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

LOL, my garage is so full of plants (and the lemon, lol) that I couldn't get a car in if I tried. I wonder if I have too many plants? Nah, one can never have too many plants, can one?

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

NEVER!

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

That wouldn't be possible, Cala and notmartha! Bring on the new varieties of all plants for us, huh?

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9a)

I just came in from my garage...the only lemon out there is an '82 Toyota!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

My garage is so old, it's called a carshed, separated from the house by a back yard. Pretty dark and spooky in there, but I always meant to clean it out and use it for sheltered parking. Now I'm thinking I might turn it into a combo plant and cat house. Have to entice the cats in to get rid of the rats, who have ruled that structure for more years than I like to think. So many projects, so little time/energy.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Forget about the lemon in the garage, or the garage, for that matter. Is the lemon an edible variety?

I don't know, but I think it's a variegated "Meyer" lemon. I lost the tag, It was called "pink lemonade" or something like that.

Longview, TX

I have a Meyer lemon tree. It is edible as far as I know. I also have a dwarf lime tree that was supposed to be a lemon tree too.....lol

Grand Prairie, TX

hey thats cool
just a question...why wouldnt the lemon be an edible kind, and what type of climate do u need if you wanted to grow your own lemon tree/plant?

Washington, DC(Zone 7a)

I have a garage that things get lost in all of the time. Can't park the car in it because a huge tree blocks the entrance. Why would anyone build a garage behind a tree? Sent my husband out there last Thursday and haven't found him yet.

I havent ever been successful rooting tress, or shrubs. Still perfecting the rose bush thing! I am sure someone here would have an answer to that question. I would start with some rooting hormone.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Cala, where did you get this plant? Does it have a good citrus scent, and would it make a good houseplant? I know, but I'm just full of questions about this plant, and the fact that it is verigated just entices me all the more....LOL.

Hey, Zeb - maybe I could send my husband out to look for your husband, and mine would disappear, too ???? (Now really - I love my husband! Ummmm, if he ever comes up missing, ya'll forget I ever mentioned this, okay???)

Welcome to DG, by the way ;0)

Thanks go_vols. Eyes, we used to have an indoor lemon tree we grew from seed. Survived 15 years -- never fruited though. When we were living in NYC it sat on the balcony during the summer. Well, the person living above spilled a bottle of shampoo all over her balcony then took several buckets of water and Mr. Clean or something to wash it away. So, where do you suppose the runoff lands? Yup, right on the lemon tree. Killed it after a few days despite trying to flush the cleanser (oh, it was lemon-scented) out of the soil. We did start another from seed and it's been going strong for about five years now, but not getting bigger because the pot is too small.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Zeb, where did you get your seed from?

Eyes,

From a lemon, of course. :) Plain ole grocery store variety. When you rub the leaves, they smell soooo good. Excuse me, I think I hear some muffled shouts coming from the garage area.

tee...hee, zeb....but I was planning on a smaller variety, don't want to cut a hole in the roof! Better go check and see if DH has escaped the garage! Cala, thanks dear, I'll call them and see what they carry.

I got my dwf lemon and lime trees here in Texas. One came from a local nursery. The other came from Lowe's, or Home Depot. You have to bring them in for the winter I believe. I take mine in the garage. They still get light in there, and fresh air at times. I bring them in when we get cold weather. During warm spells I might bring them out for a little sun now and then. I live in zone 7-8 though...
