CLOSED: A third grasshopper for ID assisstance.
This appears to be a male differential grasshopper (Melanoplus differentialis) - see http://tinyurl.com/2a5dhf9 for an image.
I always have tons of grasshoppers in my garden, yet I never seem to find any damage from them. What exactly do they eat. I did see them eating the leaves of my sunflowers though, but they never bother my daylilies.
Different species of grasshoppers can have quite different food habits, with some being generalists that will nibble on just about anything where others are more picky eaters. There appear to be only a relatively few species that cause real damage, and then only when population surges (outbreaks) occur.
Oh, ok, thanks.
