Usually nature is cooperative with my efforts at propagation. For several years now I have been frustrated by Bottle brush Buckeye. I collect the nuts and if I store them in the crisper of the fridge they sprout, if I just leave them hanging in a plastic bag they sprout, if I plant them in pots as the fall gets colder, they sprout. You might think that this is good news but I don't want them to sprout until spring. I don't desire them enough to give them some of my limited grow light space in the winter, and the ones that have begun sprouting outside will freeze and rot.
The pots that the outdoor nuts are in are stored for the winter in styrofoam boxes so there is no frequent freeze/thaw cycle. I have brought a couple of communal pots in for the winter and they are in a cold cormer of my basement with the banana corms. I would appreciate any advice that might be offered to help delay sprouting until spring. It will be too late for this year but no doubt I will try again.
