This is a bee fly (Diptera: Bombyliidae); see http://tinyurl.com/29xl8a9 for an example in the genus Chrysanthrax. If you really want to give it a name, I suggest 'Glenda'... ;-)

Probably. However, if I have learned anything over the years, just because an image resembles what you have does not necessarily mean that they are one and the same...
