Daily Bird Pics - Vol. 363

Mount Pleasant Mills, PA(Zone 5a)

Wow! These are wonderful pictures. Hack, that is only a smidgeon of the finch. They absolutely fill the tray feeder too. Rumpus is a hoot VA, just love it.

Burd, Elvis poses as though he is king of the feeders. Great shots all.

Lakeview, OH

I did not think there was ANY bird that did not like sunflower seeds! But I read up on the juncos and they prefer millet. When I said I wanted my winter birds, that is what I meant, I only see the Cardinal and Juncos in the winter, if there is a Cardinal around in the summer or spring, I don't see it. In the summer we try to take as many pictures of the hummingbirds as we can, and I am still determined to have one eat out of my hand. I almost bumped into one one day as I was coming around the tree, and there was a buzz and I saw one fly by. Great pictures everyone, the Cardinals are especially pretty against the snow.

Bird's O Plenty for everyone! Threads are really moving lately....lol
Mrs. Ed thanks for starting the new thread! Nice shots of your bird's!
That last thread really had some great shots from everyone. Glad to see the Kestrel finds for sure!
GrannyGrunt, nice shots!
nanny, I want a Pileated ...lol Your getting some really nice captures of them!
Dave, those 2 shots are stunning!!
Hack, nice shots! Your last bird is a Ruby-crowned Kinglet....by the way on that last thread...I must say you were getting some really great shots loved them all!
VA_Wild_Rose, you have that T1i dialed in!...Great shots!!
Well the sun was out today so I had an hour before work to get some shots...start off with a Dark-eyed Junco...they are no longer timid and are always around the feeder area.

Wow, Burd, don't know how I missed that (I have a "Ruby-crowned Kinglet" folder with only 2 pics in it from Feb of this year, and this one looks just like them - even almost the same pose). I reckon this one is early. Almost feels like a Lifer.

Thanks for pointing it out. I'll go back and edit the previous pic.

Hey Burd, I read the EXIF data and see that you are using a Rebel T1i camera. Your pix are really, really sharp. Do you feel the 15.1 mp of the T!i is that much better than the 10.1 my 40d has or is the T1i a better camera? Have you ever used a 40d? I'm thinking about trading in my 40d's for a couple of T1i's. What are you thoughts - or anyone else's for that matter.

And, is the movie function worth having?

I'm also gonna post this over on Mrs_Eds camera thread to see who else uses a T1i.

To many great pics to comment on!!

Poor Rumpus...I think those tail feathers are part of what makes them so adorable!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Mrs. Ed, thank you for the great new start. Your jay, wp and finch sure look happy with the food you're providing. Great shots.

Granny, cute wp and chickadee. Love all those finches at your feeder.

Nanny, cute pileated-hope it managed to get the food down.

Dave, love your jay. That mocker is just stunning.

Hack, cute finches and congrats on your kingle, love all your birds, but Ms. Cardinal is gorgeous.

VA, good for Rumpus, glad he can make it up to your feeder.

Burd, wonderful shots of all your birds, especially that second one of Elvis.

I picked up a pine cone and covered it with peanut butter, nuts and seeds. Put some sprigs of spruce on top, but still may add some red berries today. So far the blackbirds and red-breasted nuthatchand enjoying it.

This is certainly a run away thread. Gorgeous shots and what a great mix. Mrs-Ed, wonderful start with the Blue Jay, Downy and Purple Finch, thanks for the new thread. The Redpolls are not as numerous as the other years, but then again winter is just starting for them here. I'm fortunate, they showed up earlier then all the other years. End of December, beginning of January is when I usually see them. So these ones, I'm getting might be on route to you. Don't lose hope.

This picture of the female Evening Grosbeak was taken four days ago.

Not the greatest shot, but I was not bundled up enough to get close, he was in a neighbors tree, it is the same hawk that I got the other day. The Coopers hawk.

These two poor doves were out of luck on my frozen bird bath.

I went out and poured some hot water on the ice, but didn't do much good. May have to get a heater.

Wow what a great thread this is...thanks for the start Mrs. Ed. That Blue Jay is a real crack up!

Beautiful contributions everyone each photo is a sight for sore eyes.

Burn...I just have to comment on the great pics of your Redpolls and Grosbeaks...I love them! I am hoping for a Redpoll this year, they are such darling birds.

The birds are eating tons at our place due to the cool temps...the only time they slow down is when a hawk lands on the back yard dead tree.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Gee Hack, never got that high here today.....3 degrees when I got up!

YAY!!!.... another 3-5 inches of snow coming over night tonight...lol

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Geez Nanny...that is just too danged cold...thankfully we are just getting the cold but not the snow!

Here is my gorgeous female Bluebird...I could not love her more if I tried!
