Happy Birthday Becky!! Hope you had a great day, sorry I'm late.
Hi Becky!
A belated Happy Birthday to you. I hope you had a great day for it. Sorry this is late - I just pop into DG occasionally.
Take care,
Joanne
Thank you to everyone for the lovely birthday wishes! :-) :-) :-)
I had a wonderful birthday with family and friends! Everyone knows I am doing the indoor grow station, so some of the gifts I got were supplies to start another station! Ya'll know what I will be doing this weekend! :-) That will also enable me to give my MG vines more room and light to grow! I'm thoroughly enjoying growing plants indoors this Fall/Winter. The grow station is awesome for starting any kind of plants from seeds. I love it!!! :-)
Jackie - Love the blooms in your post and yours, too, Dany!!! Can't wait to see some here on my I. nil vines! :-)
Hope you had a great birthday Becky...
A.
Thank you, Antoinette! :-)
Hi Becky,
May you have a very blessed year!
Elsa
Thank you James and Elsa!
James - Love those blooms in your photo! My favorite I. purpurea cultivar! :-)
Yes Becky thanks so much for sending it to me I love it also and I love sharing it with others as well. I would love to know more about them if I may I hope you dont mind but I could use the extra for xmas as I live on security disability and want to go to New Orleans again I have a very good friend who lives there. I want to also share some more with DG'rs another 10 packs. But most of them just like them and I know from how they have grown here for me. If you have anymore imformation about its height and hardiness would you mind passing that along to me.
Thanks again,
James
James - It is an Ipomoea purpurea vine. They can get quite tall. Here they get about 12' tall, other places may have much taller vines (or possibly shorter vines) depending on it's growing conditions. They like full sun and will bloom better in full sun vs, shady or partial sun. They are great to grow in Spring and Fall because they like the cooler temps vs. the dead heat of summer. They usually produce LOTS of blooms and therefore seeds, so you'll likely get volunteers next year. The seeds can withstand frost and some degree of freezing temps (unlike I. nils which produce seeds that will likely perish in freezing temps). They are a good nectar source for butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds. I've seen all those creatures using my Purple Flaked vine blooms as a food source. In doing so, they help to pollinate the blooms to make seeds. I have had some of the Purple Flaked seeds produce solid color dark purple blooming vines., but they usually come true from seed. They can not withstand a freeze. They are annuals. I hope that helps! Good luck with your trip plans! Happy Thanksgiving!
oh, sorry i missed it. Happy Belated birthday! I never check the MG forum....
Thanks, Linda and Nicole!
Beautiful blooms, Linda! :-)
Thanks, Pixie! :-) You can pick my brain anytime! ;-)
