Car shopping...ugh- any comments?

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

I am about to buy a new small SUV. Dependability, price and gas mileage are tops on my list.
I have driven the Kia sportage and am off to drive the Honda CRV.
Anyone have advice or experience with these 2 cars?
Thanks,
Connie

yanno ... just tossing this out there... I have a friend who has a Kia.
she was commenting this summer that this car goes thru tires like no bodies business.

when she was telling me her DH was getting new tires again, and for the 3rd time at that. I knew her car was about the same age as mine, 5 yrs old or so, and I just had mine replaced last year [ford free style] .... and i asked about her mileage... but can't recall what it was.... maybe 60k just like mine.... but then she commented that [after the fact] they had heard that vehicle is not good on tires.

My mom has a CRV, it;s their secondary car that gets towed behind the Winnebago ... but they are happy with it.

I'd probably read up on 'reviews' / pros and cons of each... and plus the test drives.

DH and I always use sits like Edmonds or kelly blue book [kbb.com] ... and read up on the vehicle including prices and reviews before we buy anything... but we tend to be "ford" people.

good luck in your search.

Thank you for the info! I am hearing more and more about the Kia not being as reliable as I want. Since it is an updated model this year, there are no statistics. That is starting to make a difference to me. Even though it drove really nice, I want a car that will last a long time and not be in the shop all the time. I am leaning toward the CRV. Drove one this weekend and it was OK but it does have good reports.
I appreciate any input! I keep my cars for years......
