I think mine is a NOID. but pretty. tomorrow I'll mark every one bingo call. can't wait.
Yippee, I got one of today's calls ... Petrocosmea HT2! And, that little beauty is one I just bought from the Violet Barn a couple of weeks ago ... teeny little plant but so cute, and I will be thrilled if I can keep it alive long enough to see those pretty blooms!
I will be thrilled if I keep the one Tommie sent me alive!! Sorry.....but sometimes I'm a bad plant mom.
Lynn
LOL it would have already been dead if it still lived here;)
....but sometimes I'm a bad plant mom.
I hear ya Lynn, I'm not the best plant mom myself ... seems the older I get, the shorter my attention span is! ^_^
Thanks for being so kind Tommie....I really don't want to murder my plants, but at times I am guilty....alas.LOL
LOL Tommie ... I bought a Petrocosmea barbata from Rob's Violets a few years ago and it didn't really seem to do anything under my care, it didn't totally die but it wasn't a real happy plant. I ended up trading it to Raingazer before I could kill it ... and here I am buying another one!
Lin,
I hear you LOL.Sometimes I just don't get things watered in time or I try new things and theyy stay too wet..........It was a lot easier when I grew in the 70's and 80's.
In the 70's and 80's I worked really long hours and didn't have a lot of time to spend tending plants, yet I seemed to find the time to water them too much! I don't know why I thought they were always thirsty! Life is strange, now I'm retired and have quadruple the number of plants, all the time in the world to play in the dirt and take care of them ... and yet, I either forget to water, or I'm just too lazy and think "I'll do it tomorrow". And, nowadays I grow all of my plants (except Gessie's) in a chunky, fast draining mix. I grow everything on the dry side ... sometimes extremely dry, LOL.
Oohh, I like that petrocosmea HT-2 too! I'm tempted to order from Violet Barn as well. I haven't tried these before because I hear that heat will kill 'em. Does anyone know what max. temp. they can take and still live? My plant room gets to 82 in the summer.
This article seems to go both ways. http://www.gesneriads.ca/genpetro.htm
I know some growers put them outside in the summer (in shade),so they must be more heat tolerant than Streps.
Lynn
Lyndon Lyons says low light and cool temps ??
Maybe someone who grows them well can help.
That's not me . . . each "pet" I bring home doesn't make it . . .
Tommie is good at growing them.
ROFLMBO!!!! If that's true then they must thrive on neglect! Those poor babies I sent you would dry out and wilt and I would revive them, only to let it happen all over again. That's why they flew north! ^_^ I still have 2 (Momo and barbata) they were so pitiful I was embarassed to send them, they are obviously tough though since they are still bumping along and still pitiful only larger.
Gran,
LOL They are much more pitiful now.Every time I get new center leaves the old ones die.I have tried dry, med. and now I am trying wicking. They are not much bigger....maybe even smaller, the poor things. ^_^
Lynn
some plants are just pitas
pitas ??
Duh....I got it LOL!!
Bingo!
Oh, wait . . . I can't Bingo . . . darn it! hehehe

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful day with family and friends ... and if you happen to be alone on this holiday I hope you have a serene and peaceful day!
We usually go to South Florida to my sister's for the holiday but decided to stay home this year, so it's just the two of us. We are dog sitting our friends little dog while they are in Virginia. "Scooter" is used to his two cats but he sure isn't happy being here with our old kitty ... he barks and raises a ruckus every time he gets a glimpse of her! We are keeping them separated because we're afraid he would attack her ... he gets along fine with the two cats they have but he doesn't like other animals at all!
Well, I've baked a pumpkin pie, cooked fresh green beans, the turkey is stuffed and in the oven, and I will make mashed potato's a little later, so we can have an early dinner.
I know some area's of the country are experiencing snow and ice already but it's currently 81º here with low humidity, a perfect Florida day! It's so nice that my husband decided to take his motorcycle out for a ride, which keeps him out of the kitchen and out of my way, LOL.
I am so Thankful for all you wonderful folks here in Dave's Garden. Wishing you all many Blessings on this day of Thanksgiving!
Lin
p.s. This photo is from the summer.
