I'm a grammar freak, and bad gammar drives me up the wall. My spelling is not the best, but I stop and go to dictionary.com to make sure my spelling is correct. Does anyone who owns a Blackberry or text a lot know if it's acceptable to the world community to use bad spelling while texting? I'm trying to find someone to take care of my cats while I'm on vacation, and this was the response from the person's Blackberry:
"I be happy to cat sit for you. Yes I'm free in jan an feb. If you want when you know exact date an time when you want to go away, send me a email an then we can meet a week before you go, so i can meet you an your babies, also to know your routine what you do for them an fill out some paperwork for insurance purposes. "
This paragraph makes me think this person is a complete idiot or psycho and I frankly don't want her on my property. Is this just normal Blackberry speak?? Am I being too sensitive??
Blackberry speak??
I agree with your feelings but what I hear from my sister seems to say that is not unusual. At least she got the big words right. But if this was a new business contact for the cat sitting I would sure hope the person would spell and use correct grammar.
I just started using 'Swype' and so now my kids have to use liberal reading techniques because half the time I send messages with the wrong words but approximately the right letters. She could have something similar where , when she swyped for 'and' she was getting 'an' and did not notice or check.
Good or bad grammar only bothers me if it's being spoken. If someone says to me, "Where are you at?", I will correct them. Ditto to 'those ones', 'doesn't got' and (famous here) 'we wasn't doing nothin'. At times, I feel I'm channeling my mother. LOL
Rudeness bothers be more than incorrect spelling in a text, of which I have been guilty. (...she said with her tongue firmly planted in her cheek.) ^_^
There may be a lot of rude awakening to happen for the current younger ones who grew up with their thirteen yr old friends, and their 'an's and 'doin nothins'~~~ if they end up in a professional position, they will need to present themselves well in text just like they can't be wearing muffin tops pants to an interview.
Most phones come with spellcheck/correction/predictive text. They need to learn to use it and use it correctly. I agree with you 100%.
I didn't even think of the "quick word" thing, where it fills the word in for you. This woman is at LEAST in her late thirties, and is part owner of a pet supply store and dog training service, so she's not your average yahoo (ha!). If my neighbor can't do it I guess I'll go with her. The co-worker who gave me her contact information said she hates the woman's dog training classes, but my cats should be fine. Yeah, thanks so much....
