Garden Photos 2010 #34

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

It's a beautiful drive in May.

Thomaston, CT

Must get Laurie to take me if I'm there during digging time!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

It's a great place to go. Jo Ann and I had a great time.

Here's some pics of the place, I took in 2009.

Dana Borglum. He's in his mid 70s, but I can't keep up with him.

Sounds like a great trip and looks like a really nice place to spend an afternoon and gather goodies to bring home. Glad you two had a great time.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Here's how he sells the clumps. This is one clump in the bag.

Wow that's a nice chunky amount for $7. Can't beat that for plant hunting I think.

I just sent the link to my sister, I'll make a gardener out of her yet!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Yup!

Last pic. Dana hybridizes all sorts of irises, daylilies and peonies. Here's some of his own hybrids.

Well I don't see how anyone could leave there without a whole bunch of beauties. I would not be able to that's for sure. Living and working in the garden it what probably keeps them young.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Oh definitely. He takes care of all the gardens himself. Acres and acres, and hardly a weed in sight. Then he does the crosses for the irises, daylilies and peonies, and during the winter registers them.

A really nice man, too, and his wife is very nice also.

Deb, it's definitely worth a trip. It can't be too far for you, he's quite a ways south of Geneva, although it's a Geneva address.

it looks like a plan for next year!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

You wont be sorry. I am so glad Polly took those pictures. The Borglums are amazing generous with their clumps.

And I loved the spuria iris I saw on the website!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

What a nice place!! Love that last picture Polly, the colors are amazing!!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Pixie. It is a great place.

Marilyn, Dana hybridizes spuria too. The yellow iris in that last picture is a spuria. I have three that he hybridized. Just got them last year, so haven't seen bloom yet.

Thomaston, CT

I bought 3 varieties two years ago....one bloomed for me this summer....bloomed several times....I love them, the color is so intense!

Very dramatic and sophisticated.

That's a beauty! I love the darker colored ones.

How tall was it, Marilyn?

Beautiful color on that iris robin. Seems to glow.
Bill isn't sad to see the end of another blooming season. Roses always try to get one more bud to open.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Nice iris Robin!
Lucky you Bill, most everything is brown and mushy here.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Love the Mums, the specks just makes it so unique!!

Thomaston, CT

Yes, the mums here have had it. Polly, the bloom stalk was about 3' tall....the variety is Redwood. Can't wait to see the other 2, since of course, I've forgotten what I ordered!
